You are invited to join with Cathlamet Public Library as we partner with over 140 libraries for a two-month book club, called, One Book, One Coast, from Wednesday, April 1 to Sunday, May 31. Libraries up and down the west coast of America will be participating in the largest book club on the west coast, as we read together main title selection "They Called Us Enemy," a bestselling graphic memoir by author and Star Trek Actor George Takei. In this Eisner-autobiographical comic, Takei describes his own early childhood experiences imprisoned with his Japanese American family in an internment camp during World War II, exploring the questions "What does it mean to be an American?" "Who gets to decide?" "When the world is against you what can one person do?"
Additionally, to enable and support our community of readers, Cathlamet library will be providing this book (limited copies) for free to anyone who has a Cathlamet library card. This will be a shared community reading program that celebrates literacy, learning, and community, highlighting the power of libraries and stories in bringing people together for conversation and reflection.
Reminder, if you prefer to read books as an e-book or listen to audio, the Washington Anytime Library through your Libby app provides access to the book through your Cathlamet library card membership, which is free for all Wahkiakum residents. If you want the physical book, stop by the library, show your card, and get your free book (while supplies last, waiting list provided). See website for more details http://www.cathlamet.lib.wa.us or call, 360-795-3254.
