Patricia Lawton Doumit

Patricia Doumit, 91, passed away peacefully in Olympia, Washington, on August 11, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. She was the tenth of eleven children, born to Daniel and Margaret Lawton of Lismore, Waterford County, Ireland on March 6, 1924.

Patricia worked as a nurse in England during World War II for five years before meeting Eli Doumit of Cathlamet, Washington, on V.E. Day. Eli was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and stationed in Warrington, England. She and Eli married on June 26, 1947, and enjoyed 51 years of a happy and fruitful marriage, producing eight sons and three daughters. Surviving her are sons John (Pamela) of Cathlamet, Peter (Faith) of Moses Lake; James (AnnaMarie) of Spokane; Thomas (JoAnn) of Cathlamet and Grayland; Patrick (Rita) of Layton, Utah; Mark (Mindy) of Olympia; and Matthew (Stacey) of Troy, Idaho. She is also survived by two daughters, Anne (Tom) Sparks of Tumwater; and Helen (Joel) Hein of University Place. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Eli Doumit; daughter Margaret Emerick, and son, Paul Doumit; her parents and ten siblings. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Marian Peterson of Seaside, Oregon, Helen Wampler of Fresno, California and Mary Cyr Doumit of Puyallup, Wash.

Patricia dearly loved her 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and all of her many nieces and nephews. Patricia was blessed in having faithful and devoted, longtime caregivers, Margie Moore, Kellie Silva, and Connie Bassie, and cherished friends at St. Catherine’s Parish in Cathlamet.

For more than 65 years, Patricia was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, and was active in the Altar Society and Rosary Group. She also served many years on the Wahkiakum Schools PTA and was a member of the Elochoman Grange.

Patricia was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She lived a life of grace and peace, steeped in the love of God. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 23 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Cathlamet beginning with The Rosary at 1:00 p.m., Mass at 2:00 p.m. (in lieu of the weekly 7:00 a.m. service), then interment and committal at Greenwood Cemetery. Father Bryan Ochs will officiate, with Deacon Fred Johnson as speaker. A reception will follow at the Julius A. Wendt Elementary School in Cathlamet.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Puget Sound Nursing Center, Capitol Medical Center, and Providence/St. Peter’s Hospice in Olympia, and Harborview Hospital in Seattle for their wonderful, compassionate care.
