DNR speaks to fire danger

August 20, 2015

To The Eagle:

As of August 11, there have been 751 fires on DNR-protected lands, with 628 of them caused by human activity. By this time last year, the state had seen 565 fires, with 455 of those human caused.

To reduce that threat, DNR is looking to the public for help. Human-caused fires can be prevented if people take every precaution to not start a fire. People need to be aware of their surroundings at all times. If working with equipment in the yard, always be sure to have water available if a fire sparks.

We can’t prevent lightning-caused fires, but we can prevent human-caused fires.
