Dog races to be held on back-to-back weekends

The Willamette Valley Basenji Club will hold AKC coursing events at Misty Rivers Plantation. 117 Cross Dike Road, Puget Island on September 26-27 and Oct 3-4.

The events, C.A.T. (Coursing Ability Tests), this Saturday and Sunday are open to all dogs including mixed breeds. The morning trials are scheduled to start at 9:15 am. Dogs may enter to run between 8:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. Afternoon trials will begin at 12:15 p.m., with entry open 12-2 p.m.

Spectators, including leashed dogs, are welcome. There is no parking or attendance fee and seating and restrooms are available. Spectators can follow the signs from the Birnie Slough Bridge and park on the grass along the driveway in front. There is limited handicapped parking on the coursing field in back.

The second event, Oct 3-4, is also being held at Misty River Plantation and will be restricted to registered sighthounds only. Qualifying tests and Junior Courser tests start at 9:00 a.m., with competitive racing following. After a short break for pot luck lunch, JC test and racing will continue.
