October 22, 2015



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 12 — 12:30 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with abdominal pain. 1:35 p.m. A juvenile was hurting himself at a Cathlamet school. A representative from the mental health department responded. 4:49 p.m. Two representatives from Wahkiakum Search and Rescue joined the search for a missing person in Grays Harbor County. They were unsuccessful in their attempt to locate the individual and returned home early the next morning. 6:19 p.m. A caller reported that a cat had been been severely injured after being run over on a Puget Island road. 9:17 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a vehicle stop in Cathlamet.

October 13 — 8:49 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen down a flight of stairs. 7:15 p.m. A call came in from someone who seemed suicidal. 7:32 p.m. A caller reported that a former boyfriend had stolen several of her items and was driving off in their motorhome. A deputy made contact with the woman who said that the boyfriend had kicked her in the head and slapped her face. She was unwilling to press charges. Due to another ongoing emergency, the deputy asked the woman to meet with him later to make a statement and advised her to obtain a protection order. The deputy made contact with the woman the next day. She was uncooperative according to the report. She had recovered most of her belongings and was unwilling to press charges because she didn’t want her ex-boyfriend to get into trouble.

October 14 — 8:50 a.m. A Cathlamet resident was concerned about a juvenile who wanted to hurt herself. A representative from the mental health department responded. 9:12 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a man in Rosedale when a vein burst in his leg. 2:47 p.m. The Longview Police Department requested assistance in locating an individual despite being uncertain of the direction in which he was traveling. They advised that they believed him to be armed with a knife. 5:21 p.m. A car had gone off the road along the detour in the Elochoman Valley. 5:27 p.m. Skamania County requested assistance with a search for a hiker. No one was sent at that time. 8:32 p.m. A Skamokawa resident requested assistance after locking himself out of his vehicle.

October 15 — 3:56 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that items had been stolen from a barn. 4:11 p.m. A caller reported a juvenile problem in a Cathlamet park. A deputy responded. 5:22 p.m. A power outage was reported in Deep River. The PUD was notified. Someone had dug up the line and not reported it. 7:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident. LifeFlight was en route. 8:10 p.m. A Deep River resident complained that a neighbor had been speeding past his home and revving his engine, possibly due to a dispute over dogs. 9:13 p.m. An alarm was activated at an ATM in Cathlamet.

October 16 — 8:14 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who had fallen and needed transport to the hospital. 8:59 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious person skateboarding on a Puget Island road between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. 2:22 pm. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that she had been attacked by her neighbor’s two dogs. 6:31 p.m. A power outage was reported in the Rosedale area. The PUD was notified. 9:16 p.m. Deputies, District 4 Fire Department, the Cathlamet Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report of a vehicle on fire on the detour in the Elochoman Valley. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle.

October 17 — 10:49 a.m. A caller reported that a contractor was burning a house on Puget Island. A deputy confirmed that the individual had a proper permit. 10:47 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report that a vehicle had rolled over near Mill Creek Road. Two people were said to be out of the vehicle and walking. The accident was confirmed to be in Cowlitz County.

October 18 — 7:49 a.m. A caller reported being attacked by two dogs on Puget Island. The caller said that one dog had grabbed her pant leg and the other dog held her dog down with its mouth. Deputies spoke with the owners, who were cooperative. They were given a warning. 10:47 p.m. A caller reported that a child had been abandoned by her mother and asked if the child’s father could pick up the child. The caller was advised and given the number to Child Protective Services in order to make a report. 12:11 p.m. A caller was concerned about a person she had seen sitting on a guard rail along SR 4 in the rain, crouched down, without socks or shoes. 3:45 p.m. A caller reported cows in the middle of a Puget Island road. 5:01 p.m. A motorist was concerned about a man changing a tire on his vehicle along SR 4, because his legs were in the roadway. 7:55 p.m. Traffic signs were vandalized in the Elochoman Valley area. 9:53 p.m. An injured bird was found in the Elochoman Valley area. A representative from a wildlife rehabilitation center agreed to pick up the bird.

October 19 — 4:28 a.m. A caller reported that a bush was blocking part of one of the lanes on the Puget Island bridge. 8:25 a.m. A juvenile was reported missing. She was later located in Longview. 8:42 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that an ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend had trespassed and locked her out of her home. Deputies responded and escorted the two from the home and drove them back to Cathlamet. 10:43 a.m. A caller reported that a tree had fallen on power lines in the Skamokawa area. The PUD was notified. 11:08 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a logger who had hit his head after falling off a pile of logs in the Grays River area. 12:32 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that he was having problems with his ex-girlfriend. 1:23 p.m. A caller reported that a tanker truck was pumping fluids into a field in the Elochoman Valley area. Investigation revealed that it was part of the culvert replacement and that it was permitted. 2:23 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a woman in a vehicle on the side of SR 4 near Cathlamet. Deputies were unable to locate the woman. 2:50 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that she had received what seemed to be a prank call from someone claiming that she had been sexually assaulted and claiming to be her granddaughter. The resident called back after receiving another phone call. She was advised. 4:20 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a suspicious car parked near his home. 6:07 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Elochoman Valley resident who has having complications from diabetes.
