A crew from Precision Recreation Contractors installed new play equipment at Erickson Park in Cathlamet on Tuesday.

It took a little longer than expected, but thanks to the Town of Cathlamet, children have a new park structure to play on at Erickson Park.

Last year, the town applied for a grant to purchase a structure that had been picked out by Superintendent of Public Works Duncan Cruickshank, but they were turned down.

This year, the council authorized $20,000 to be budgeted for the project, according to Town Clerk/Treasurer Kerrie McNally.

It turns out that the money that had been set aside didn't have to be earmarked to match funds for a possible grant, it was enough to purchase the structure outright, and two steel benches besides.

Why? After a little searching, McNally was able to relocate the structure that Cruickshank had liked so much. The best part? It was on sale.

On Monday, Cruickshank and another town employee, Terry Vik, along with a neighbor, Craig Nielsen, tore down the old structure. On Tuesday, a crew began the installation.

"We are very happy to provide a safe and enjoyable new play structure at Erickson Park," McNally said.
