Flyers are designed to split the vote

October 25, 2018

To The Eagle:

In at least three races across Washington state, last minute flyers have been mailed out that are designed to trick voters into voting for a write-in candidate that is not running, does not want to run, and is supporting the Democratic candidate that is on the ballot. All three of the candidates that these flyers are attacking are women. One of them, Erin Frasier, is running against incumbent Jim Walsh for State Representative, Legislative District 19-Position 1.

These flyers are designed to split the Democratic vote by offering up a bogus alternate candidate with misleading information designed to trick voters. The Daily News interviewed Jim Walsh about the flyer, who said he didn’t need anyone trying to split the Democratic vote. “I’m not into other stuff. Anything that creates drama and draws attention away from Erin’s lack of substance is not of any interest to me.”

I strongly disagree with Jim Walsh. We should all be very interested and very concerned when we become aware of any attempts to manipulate our vote through disinformation. In my opinion it should not be brushed off as “not of any interest to me.” And as far as Erin’s lack of substance is concerned, take a look at the Voters’ Pamphlet provided by the Secretary of State. Erin Frasier stands out as a young, accomplished woman whose life has been filled with substance and a constant focus on helping others.

We should not tolerate or reward bad actors for using trickery to get their preferred candidate elected. Candidates should be elected because they did the work: knocked on doors, made phone calls, and debated the issues. Erin Frasier has done all that and more. She is the best candidate to serve our community. Vote for Erin Frasier.
