The last lure coursing event for this year takes place this weekend at Misty Rivers Plantation, 117 Cross Dike Road on Puget Island. The event, sponsored by the Willamette Valley Basenji Club and sanctioned by the AKC, will consist of two days of CAT and FAST CAT Trials. CAT, or Coursing Aptitude Trial, is a judged event in which dogs chase a lure around a random course of 1000 to 1500 yards. FAST CAT is a timed event – a straight 100 yard dash. Dogs are clocked on a stopwatch and their time converted to MPH. Both types will be scheduled on both days, Saturday and Sunday.

Running will commence around 9 a.m. both days and run to completion, usually late afternoon. All dogs are invited to run. Unregistered or mixed breed dogs must go to the AKC website and get a PAL form to get a number to run under.

Dogs are also invited to attend as spectators, but must bring their owners on a good leash. Spectators can park on the lawn by the driveway in front, contestants on the coursing field in back.
