Sheriff's Report, October 15, 2020

 

October 15, 2020



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 5 – 9:49 a.m. A panic alarm was activated at a Cathlamet bank. 11:01 a.m. A salmon counter from the State of Washington notified the sheriff’s department that he would be walking Birnie Creek. 1:09 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident complaining of abdominal pain. 2:21 p.m. Health and Human Services requested a welfare check on a resident on Greenwood Road after someone reported that the individual, who had recently had surgery, was not eating, drinking, or taking medications. A deputy responded and advised that the resident was eating and drinking and appeared to be okay. 2:31 p.m. A deputy aided a person who had gotten locked out of a vehicle on Puget Island. 3:08 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that his mailbox had been damaged sometime over the weekend.


October 6 – 6:46 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was incoherent, vomiting, and whose feet had turned purple. 10:08 a.m. A welfare check was requested for an Elochoman Valley resident. The sheriff’s department also received a referral from Adult Protective Services. A deputy responded to the home and found the individual to be well, with access to basic needs. 11:36 a.m. A deputy was requested for a civil standby while someone collected her cats from a Cathlamet residence. 12:47 p.m. A caller reported a small unattended campfire at Hornstra Beach. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 2:25 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a person at a Rosedale address who was having a seizure. 5:53 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a diabetic Rosedale resident who was awake but otherwise unresponsive. The resident refused transport to the hospital. 7:14 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that she was receiving threats from a neighbor. Dispatch called back twice. The resident was uncooperative, hanging up both times. She called again, stating that the neighbor told her she needed to move. Deputies responded and determined that her explanation of events did not meet the definition of a crime. She told them to get off her property. No law enforcement action was taken. 7:29 p.m. A caller reported an illegal burn in the Rosedale area.


October 7 – 10:11 a.m. A caller reported that a passenger in a vehicle at Baker’s Corner had pointed a handgun at him before the car headed west on SR 4. 10:40 a.m. A caller said that she witnessed the rear window of her vehicle break, but she wasn’t sure what caused it. 11:10 a.m. A caller reported that there had been an assault at a school in Cathlamet the week prior. 1:09 p.m. A caller reported a fraudulent charge on a card. 1:40 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that a vehicle had been abandoned on his property. 3:32 p.m. An east county resident reported that a tire had been slashed. He said his neighbor informed him that his mailbox and political sign had been knocked down. 3:41 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that someone had thrown a rock at her window, breaking it. At 6:54 p.m., deputies were asked to leave. There was no response at the alleged rock thrower’s home. 5:34 p.m. A person parked in Cathlamet asked for a jump start. 7:41 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained that a neighbor had been burning manure for three days and had left it unattended. 8:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen. 8:36 a.m. The sheriff’s department was asked to be on the lookout for a possibly suicidal subject who had a history of driving to the area. Authorities in Cowlitz County were able to contact the individual, who was unwilling to provide her location but said she was fine. 9:14 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of chest pain.


October 8 – 12:13 a.m. A caller reported possible road rage involving two vehicles in the Elochoman Valley. Extra units were requested. 9:47 a.m. A body was found on a beach at Little Cape Horn (see related story in this edition). Deputies and the coroner responded. 11:13 a.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading east on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 11:33 a.m. A caller reported that two juveniles were riding their skateboards into traffic in Cathlamet. 2:10 p.m. Officers provided an assist for human services at a Rosedale home. 2:27 p.m. A caller requested assistance in contacting one of her clients at an Elochoman Valley home. 5:53 p.m. A caller reported a gas leak, possibly coming from apartments above a restaurant on Main Street in Cathlamet. The Cathlamet Fire Department and deputies responded.


October 9 – 12:11 a.m. A fire alarm was activated at a Cathlamet address. It turned out to be a smoke alarm. A responsible person responded. 2:20 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that he had been receiving harassing phone calls. 5:21 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that political signs had been knocked down and damaged for the fifth time.

October 10 – 2:15 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had struck some rocks on SR 4 near Nassa Point and was now blocking the westbound lane. A deputy responded and reported that the vehicle was not blocking the lane. 12:34 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a theft. It was determined to be a civil issue. 1:02 p.m. An alarm was activated at the marina. A responsible person was notified. 2:09 p.m. A caller reported an illegal burn on East Valley Road. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded, and the homeowner extinguished the fire. 9:13 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at a Rosburg home. State patrol tried to make contact with the suspect, but the door was locked. At 9:35 p.m., state patrol requested aid for the victim, who had injuries to her left eye and the left side of her head. She was taken to the Rosburg store to meet with the Grays River ambulance. At 9:41 p.m., state patrol took an individual into custody.
