Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 11 – 1:29 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale address. The sheriff’s department attempted to contact the owner three times. A deputy responded. 2:13 a.m. The Skamokawa ambulance aided a Middle Valley Road resident who was found confused and on her bathroom floor. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 9:58 a.m. A caller reported that a man who was behaving strangely had entered a church on Puget Island. A deputy spoke with the man at 10:42 a.m. He said he had run out of gas. He said he had greeted the people in the church, but they just looked at him so he left. He refused assistance from mental health and the deputy took him home. 11:37 a.m. Two callers reported that a trail of oil had created slick conditions in the southbound lane of SR 409 and down West Sunny Sands. 11:49 a.m. A caller reported that a speeding car had passed him on the Puget Island bridge. 4:32 p.m. A caller said that a tree had fallen halfway across Eden Valley Road. He moved it as far off the road as he could. The county road department was notified. 4:45 p.m. A caller reported that a tree had fallen and was blocking both lanes of Salmon Creek Road. The county road department was notified. State patrol responded and said that the tree had been moved off the roadway, but was still on the shoulder. 4:45 p.m. A caller reported that there were two or three rocks the size of pumpkins in the westbound lane of SR 4 near the western base of KM. A deputy responded and said he believed that the hillside could come down. The Washington State Department of Transportation said they would have someone check the area the following day. State patrol was notified. 5:44 p.m. A homeowner east of Cathlamet found a black mailbox, that had the number 17 printed on it and was still attached to a post on her front porch. Her mailbox had been stolen the week before, but this mailbox was not hers. 7:22 p.m. A caller reported a boulder on the fog line of the westbound lane of SR 4 just east of County Line Park. A car had swerved to miss it and hit the guardrail. State patrol responded and a tow truck was on the way. 8:08 p.m. A child accidentally dialed 911 while trying to access music on her mom’s phone. 8:18 p.m. A caller said that a transformer on Columbia Street had blown after he saw a flash and sparks and heard a loud boom. 8:18 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a power outage. Multiple calls were received, some from as far as Skamokawa. 8:21 p.m. A caller reported a live wire across Elochoman Valley Road. A deputy responded and the PUD was notified. The road reopened at 9:37 p.m. 8:22 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a power outage after a large oak tree fell on the power lines at his address. He said he didn’t see any sparks. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 8:33 p.m. A caller reported that a tree had fallen and was blocking all lanes of traffic on KM near the traffic light. State patrol responded and reported that the tree was clear at 8:44 p.m. 9:27 p.m. A caller reported a power outage after a power line came down on West Little Island Road. The Puget Island Fire Department, a deputy, and the PUD responded. 10:17 p.m. A Puget Island resident said that a family member may need oxygen, depending on how long the power outage lasted. She said she would call later if they needed an ambulance to deliver some oxygen bottles. 11:35 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who needed assistance to get out of his chair and go to bed after a caregiver failed to show up. 11:38 p.m. A caller reported seeing sparks from a power line on Columbia Street and then heard a large bang before the power line swung by his window. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified.

October 12 – 1:53 a.m. Dispatch received a 911 call. It was a scratchy connection and no one was on the line. It turned out to be a recurring problem with a landline at an Elochoman Valley home. 5:56 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with a lift assist. 9:49 a.m. A medical alarm was activated at an East Valley Road address. The Cathlamet ambulance responded but was told to stand down after the alarm was canceled by the alarm company. 10:21 a.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island home after a caller reported an individual had lost consciousness. 11a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a gate near the summit of KM when a caller said someone was having back problems after hitting a tree. 2:08 p.m. A firearm was surrendered to the sheriff’s department. 2:34 p.m. A caller reported that a truck without license plates appeared to have been abandoned on a Cathlamet street, blocking a stop sign. 3:04 p.m. A church on North Welcome Slough Road asked for information about how to trespass a person, after receiving an unwanted visit the day before. 3:48 p.m. A Cathlamet parent said his son had taken off. Deputies sighted the boy at Erickson Park and then near the high school. They returned him to his father and the pair had an appointment later with the mental health department. 5:53 p.m. A caller reported that someone heading east on SR 4 in the Rosedale area was transporting propane tanks and some other unsecured items on top of a lawn mower trailer. State patrol was notified. 10:26 p.m. A Rosedale resident accidentally dialed 911. 11:25 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist for a Puget Island resident.

October 13 – 5:47 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist for a Puget Island resident. 7:13 a.m. A tree was down and blocking both lanes of Salmon Creek Road. The county road department was notified. 9:39 a.m. A tree was blocking both lanes of SR 4 on the east side of KM. WSDOT was notified. 10:47 a.m. Someone at Vista Park asked for assistance after getting locked out of her vehicle. 2:13 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check for a Puget Island resident who seemed disoriented and had told her that she was receiving threats from a family member. Deputies responded and found the resident responsive. She denied receiving any threats. 2:56 p.m. A caller reported that two dogs were running along SR 4 in the Cathlamet area and had turned up the road toward the treatment plant. 3:32 p.m. A caller reported that he had confronted an individual who had driven down his driveway on Risk Road. The man had identified himself as Shane, and said he lived in the Elochoman, the caller said. He later told the deputy that the individual had been pulling up random driveways in the area. 11:21 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist for a Puget Island resident.

October 14 – 12:11 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was having heart issues. 5:42 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist for a Puget Island resident. 6:08 a.m. A caller reported a large object on the south end of the Puget Island bridge. State patrol was notified. 8:17 a.m. A caller reported that an injured deer with a broken back was trying to return to the SR 4 roadway just east of Cathlamet, and asked to have it euthanized. A deputy responded. 9:32 a.m. The Grays River ambulance and the Grays River Fire Department aided a Rosburg resident complaining of chest pain. 10:50 a.m. A caller reported that a logging truck was speeding on West Deep River Road. 1:32 p.m. A deputy was requested for an agency assist at a Rosedale home. 4:20 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of his vehicle at a Rosedale business. 4:38 p.m. A caller reported a deceased deer in a ditch along SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 5:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was having trouble breathing. 11:13 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist for a Puget Island resident.

October 15 – 5:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist for a Puget Island resident. 9 a.m. A caller reported a deceased raccoon on the guard rail of the Birnie Slough bridge. 10:50 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a bicycle had been stolen. 12:08 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a resident on Middle Valley Road. 1:04 p.m. A caller reported that a pig was walking down North Welcome Slough Road. 1:16 p.m. A caller reported that a protection order had been violated. 4:19 p..m. A caller reported that a patient came in with an animal bite.

October 16 – 12:41 a.m. A caller complained about what sounded like a hammer banging on a chain link fence. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the noise. 5:30 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 8:13 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual who had fallen in Cathlamet. 9:37 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of chest pain. 11:54 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a burglary. 2:05 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that some packages had been stolen. 2:41 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle in a Cathlamet parking lot. 3:03 p.m. A motorist said he had been run off the road while heading west on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area by the driver of a black Dodge truck with a canopy. Deputies and state patrol responded. 8:41 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported hearing several shots fired. A deputy responded. 9:44 p.m. A caller asked for assistance getting to Longview after his vehicle broke down. A deputy found transportation for the man. 10:18 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident who had not shown up for work. Her car was not in the driveway, and her dogs had been barking for several hours. Someone reported hearing a man shouting expletives and throwing something at the fence. Deputies responded. No one was home and the dogs were locked in the garage. They found nothing suspicious, but the last known phone number for the resident was disconnected.

October 17 – 1:12 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked at the Elochoman Valley Fire Hall. A deputy responded. 3 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a man was prowling outside. He told the residents that his name was Scott and that he was looking for his two missing children. The subject left on foot. A deputy responded and asked for back up. A second deputy responded and the man was escorted out of town. 9:14 a.m. A caller said he was a private investigator and that he was in his vehicle performing surveillance on a home in the Elochoman Valley. At 1:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a complaint about the matter. 9:39 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported seeing a boat float by without anyone in it. A deputy was able to secure the boat. 11:22 a.m. A caller reported that a truck and trailer were blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 near the summit of KM. State patrol responded. 11:53 a.m. A caller reported finding a wallet. 2:42 p.m. An East Valley Road resident reported that he was being threatened and harassed. 3:09 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that political signs had been stolen from his property. 5:29 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a political sign had been stolen. 5:41 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on an Elochoman Valley resident after seeing suspicious people in a truck leaving the property. The resident said nothing was out of place but she would see if anything was missing.

October 18 – 2:03 a.m. The Skamokawa ambulance aided a person in Skamokawa complaining of a racing heart rate. 6:16 a.m. A caller reported that something was blocking the northbound lane of Elochoman Valley Road. The county road department responded and found that the road had been cleared before they arrived. 11:30 a.m. A caller said he had struck a power meter on the side of a Puget Island barn with his vehicle. The PUD was notified. 1:36 p.m. A motorist struck and injured a deer on Elochoman Valley Road. A deputy responded and the deer was euthanized. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified that it was a white-tailed deer. 9:52 p.m. An accident alarm in a vehicle was accidentally activated at a Beaver Creek address.
