January 3 — 10:32 a.m. A caller reported that a man in a trench coat was holding two men at gunpoint at an address on Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. Deputies, state patrol, and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officers responded. An individual was taken into custody. A search warrant was issued for the house and a firearm was located. 4:46 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with a blood pressure issue.

January 4 — 7:11 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 7:57 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious truck with a load of scrap metal at a Skamokawa property. 10:05 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was confused and had a high fever. 10:42 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that someone had tried to take her child. The caller said the subject had repeatedly offered a ride to the teenager. The youth said that a passenger in the vehicle had reached in her direction, but that was all. The caller said she wanted to report the matter because the suspect had recently made threats to family members. 11:03 a.m. A Rosedale resident said he had received a package in the mail containing six bags of a white powder substance. He hadn’t ordered it and didn’t know what it was. At 11:57 a.m., his wife called the sheriff’s office to report that the powder was ordered to make plaster casts of hands. 10:31 p.m. The host at County Line Park said he had been threatened by a woman when he informed her that she could not stay in the day use area after hours. At 10:36 p.m., he called to say she had returned with another vehicle following. A deputy responded. The park host told the deputy that he had spoken with the woman’s husband. The man told him she was there because she and her son had gotten into a fight. They said they would leave. No law enforcement action was taken at that time.

January 5 — 2:26 p.m. A Rosedale resident said that a delivery vehicle had struck a wire, possibly for the internet, and it was now sagging. The PUD responded and answered the resident’s questions. 2:39 p.m. A caller reported a three vehicle accident on SR 4 in the Rosburg area. All the cars were on the side of the road. No injuries were reported. State patrol and the Grays River ambulance responded. All parties refused transport to the hospital. 3:42 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver in Cathlamet. The vehicle was later seen heading west on SR 4. A deputy stopped the driver and reported that there were no signs of impairment. 5:24 p.m. A caller reported that the driver of a red Subaru hatchback had passed about eight cars doing approximately 100 mph on SR 4 near County Line Park. 5:27 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an east county resident who may have had a heart attack. 9:44 p.m. Several Grays River residents reported that the power was out, and a caller said that a pole appeared to be down near the Grays River Cafe. The PUD responded and power was restored at 12:53 a.m.

January 6 — 7:42 a.m. A caller reported that there was a sea lion in a Grays River field. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. 8:02 a.m. A caller reported that there was water over Barr Road. 9:46 a.m. A caller reported that a sailboat floating downriver near the Elochoman Slough Marina appeared to be unoccupied. The boat was later found to be occupied. 12:28 p.m. A caller said he had pictures of people taking cans out of the recycling bins on Puget Island. 12:31 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained about a neighbor’s dogs. She said they were chasing her six year old child, and one had been aggressive with her. She added that when she tried to talk to her neighbor, he just yelled at her. A deputy responded and spoke with both parties. The owner said he was going to install a fence. The deputy noted that one dog jumped on him “boisterously.” 3:48 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after he locked his keys in his car, which was still running. There were no deputies available and the caller was advised to contact a locksmith.

January 7 — 9:31 a.m. A caller asked for assistance after his son, who was kayaking in the sloughs near Rosburg, became fearful that sea lions were going to tip his boat. WDFW was notified. 4:26 p.m. A caller reported that a woman with possible dementia was at a Rosedale business. She did not know where she lived. A deputy responded and requested a representative from the mental health department. 5:57 p.m. A caller dialed 911 and hung up. When dispatch called back, they said it was an accidental call. 10:14 p.m. A burglar alarm was activated at a Rosedale address.

January 8 — 8:40 a.m. A caller reported that there was water spraying from a pipe at a pump house on West Birnie Slough Road. The PUD was notified. 10:30 a.m. A caller reported that a cow was loose and on KM, east of the slide area. A possible owner was notified. Several callers reported that the cow was on the highway. A deputy and state patrol responded but were unable to locate the animal. 1:24 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was having seizures. 2:09 p.m. A Cathlamet church reported that a man was parked on their property. They told him he could stay the night, but he was still there. 3:18 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to Health and Human Services in the Elochoman Valley after a man who had been on a bus to Naselle said he thought he had been drugged. He said he wanted to go to the hospital, not talk about what happened to him. He said he had information about murders and missing girls in Portland. A professional from the mental health department advised. 3:48 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a package belonging to her had been delivered to the neighbor’s door, that the neighbor had opened it and then kicked it down the stairs. There was a restraining order between the two, but because there was no violation of the order and the item did not break, no police action was taken. 5:26 p.m. A caller was concerned about a friend who said he was staying at a local church. The man was upset after a breakup and may have been drinking. The caller also said he had made suicidal statements and had guns. Deputies responded and a representative from the mental health department advised. The individual asked to be transported to the hospital. The Cathlamet ambulance responded. 6:57 p.m. A resident of a Cathlamet apartment reported that her neighbor was screaming and banging on her bathroom wall. She said she had an anti-harassment order with her neighbor. 9:30 p.m. A caller reported that a truck was traveling about five mph on SR4 in the Deep River area. He said he could not get a good description because of the fog.

January 9 — 9:24 a.m. A caller said that some teenagers in a Honda wagon had thrown fluid at his truck while traveling on a Puget Island road. There were four youths in the car, he said, and they appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. A deputy later spoke with one of the youths and gave him a warning. The deputy said he would call parents. 10:12 a.m. A caller said that the District 4 Fire Department would be conducting a practice burn on an Elochoman Valley home the following day. 11:32 a.m. A caller said that a 24 foot boat and trailer were blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 in the Deep River area. There was no one around. State patrol responded. 2:47 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that her husband had accidentally cut his wrist. The Cathlamet ambulance responded, but he refused transport to the hospital, stating his wife would drive him. 3:03 p.m. A Cathlamet resident was concerned about a neighbor’s burn being too close to her property. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 7:21 p.m. The resident of a Cathlamet apartment said that her neighbor was banging on walls again and that her child was jumping off furniture. A deputy responded. 8:16 p.m. A caller from a Rosedale business said that an employee had been instructed via text to take $800 out of the safe and take it to the parking lot of another Rosedale business. The caller said that the person giving the instructions was still texting the employee, had identified himself as an officer, said that he was working with the Chief of Police in Cathlamet, and that it was a federal case.

January 10 — 12:16 a.m. A caller reported a disturbance at a residence on East Valley Road. 8:53 a.m. A Cowlitz County agency responding to a domestic disturbance at a home near the county line asked the sheriff’s department for assistance. Weapons and drugs or alcohol were suspected. The deputy found one subject crouched in the kitchen. The male subject answered the door. The woman had marks on her forehead and hand, and the man had a scratch on his neck and cheek, but the Cowlitz deputy determined that there was no probable cause for arrest and not enough evidence for involuntary treatment. 11:48 a.m. A caller said a family member was having a mental health episode at an Elochoman Valley home. He was said to be violent. Deputies, WDFW officers, state patrol, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. The mental health department was notified. The individual was not willing to go to the hospital and was taken into custody after a short altercation. 3:05 p.m. A Rosedale business reported that a customer left his card but didn’t pay for gas. He was identified and a message was left on his cell phone. He called back and said he would return to the business. 3:14 p.m. The resident of an apartment in Cathlamet said a neighbor was pounding on the walls again. The caller said she believed her neighbor did it on purpose because of an anti-harassment order. A deputy spoke with the neighbor. 5:17 p.m. A caller reported that a man and woman were fighting over their two kids in a Rosedale parking lot. The pair had shown up in different cars. The woman had arrived with two kids, and the man left with one of them. 6:01 p.m. A caller said she had noticed that when her ex-husband dropped off their kids, he did not have an interlock device in his vehicle.
