Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

March 7 — 8:15 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded when a Cathlamet resident needed assistance. 9:46 p.m. A caller reported that he almost struck a horse that was loose on West Birnie Slough Road. Deputies attempted to contact the owner. It was noted that this was an ongoing problem. 10:44 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department responded to an Elochoman Valley home after the owner reported a chimney fire. At 11:10 p.m., a member of the fire department reported that the fire appeared to be out.

March 8 — A boater reported that he had run aground on Hunting Island. Deputies responded, but were unable to move the boat at that time. The U.S. Coast Guard said they were unable to respond because of current conditions at the Columbia River Bar. At 9:12 a.m., the Coast Guard said that someone had given the vessel a tow. 12:40 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a person at a Rosedale address who had lost consciousness. 12:45 p.m. The marina reported a theft of services after a person docked a sailboat there for three weeks without paying. The marina had a credit card on file, but it had been declined. The owner was believed to be visiting the vessel at night. 1:11 p.m. The Grays River Fire Department responded to a Rosedale address to assist the Cathlamet ambulance with an individual who had lost consciousness. 1:26 p.m. A deputy and state patrol responded when a flatbed truck lost its load on the bridge in Skamokawa and was blocking traffic. 3:14 p.m. A caller reported that a parent had picked up a woman on Puget Island. The woman appeared to have dementia and was now refusing to get out of the vehicle. State patrol responded and said that someone at the scene knew the woman and offered to take her home. 3:59 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a Rosedale resident. A deputy responded and found the subject alive and well. The caller was notified.

March 9 — 6:42 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen out of his wheelchair. 9:12 a.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of her vehicle at the hatchery on Beaver Creek. 12:19 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of his vehicle at a Rosedale business. Another person at the scene was able to assist. 3:49 p.m. A caller reported that several horses at a property on East Valley Road were being neglected. He said they were coming on to his property to eat. He also believed there may be a deceased horse in the field. A deputy responded and found that the horses had hay, water, and a three sided shelter. He said that their conditions varied, and while most appeared thin, they did not meet the threshold to be considered criminal at that time. 3:50 p.m. A caller reported that a cow was on the road near the intersection of Cross Dike Road and West Birnie Slough. A deputy responded and was unable to locate the animal. 8:42 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with low blood sugar. 9:19 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident. A deputy responded and found everything okay.

March 10 — 3:30 p.m. A person was concerned that a friend might be suicidal. 5:55 p.m. A caller reported a water leak in Cathlamet. Someone from the Town of Cathlamet responded.

March 11 — 5:21 a.m. A caller complained about the amount of noise created by trucks leaving a nearby business on Ostervold Road, citing a state law that does not allow businesses to make noise between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. 11:57 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a possible violation of a restraining order. 7:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist to a Cathlamet resident. 8:25 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle that appeared to have been abandoned on Elochoman Valley Road was blocking a driveway.

March 12 — 3:57 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 east of Little Cape Horn. 5:09 p.m. A motorist complained about a youth at an East Birnie Slough home who flipped him off and yelled at him to slow down when he drove by. The caller said it was an ongoing problem; the boy always greeted him the same way. 5:33 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle that had peeled out of a nearby parking lot on a Skamokawa Road. 7:39 p.m. A Grays River resident reported seeing a possible flare on a logging road behind her property. 10:02 p.m. An east county resident reported a possible power outage. The PUD was notified. 10:21 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that someone had been banging on her front door. She later said that the person was gone, but an inverter for her trailer had been stolen. 10:38 p.m. An individual was taken into custody following a domestic disturbance at a Skamokawa home. 11:24 p.m. A caller reported that a family member who was having a mental health issue had left a Westport home. Dispatch notified the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office.

March 13 — 5:12 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a chimney fire. The District 4 Fire Department responded. 12:40 p.m. A caller reported a brush fire in a Rosburg field after a controlled burn had spread. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 1:53 p.m. A caller reported an erratic and aggressive driver that had gone into the other lane and narrowly missed another vehicle while heading west on SR 4. State patrol was notified. 2:50 p.m. A motorcyclist was injured in an accident on SR 4 near Flandersville. Deputies, state patrol, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the District 4 Fire Department responded. 4:11 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle at a Little Cape Horn home. 4:21 p.m. A caller reported that she had gotten stuck behind a gate on Weyerhauser land in Grays River. There were two vehicles, four adults, and one child stranded at the location. Dispatch called the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and a manager from Weyerhauser. At 4:48 p.m., Fish and Wildlife said they would send an officer, and dispatch notified the caller that someone was on their way. 4:33 p.m. A caller said that a passing vehicle had crossed the center line on the Puget Island bridge and smashed his mirror. The other driver had initially stopped, but then took off. The caller was told to wait where he was, but he refused, stating he had to go get his tractor. He said he would return, and dispatch advised that moving around would make it difficult to investigate the damage to his truck. 5:44 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Alger Creek resident who had fallen. 6:12 p.m. A caller in Grays River said she had found a pregnant dog. The Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group was notified. 10:48 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported hearing a rapid succession of shots fired.

March 14 — 3:24 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident after a caller received text messages threatening self harm. 9:42 a.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on a Deep River road. 12:39 p.m. A Rosedale resident accidentally dialed 911. 1:20 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported finding two pocket knives, a no dumping sign, and a possible bullet hole in his mailbox. Deputies responded and found more items. They noted that the bullet hole had apparent rust. The caller said he had been having issues with someone in town. 4:11 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet business. A deputy responded.
