Lady Mules earn first victory

Kamryn Watkins got a hit for the Lady Mules in a 25-14 set win against Napavine.

The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team continues to grow, and this week, they lost one but earned their first victory of the season. This brings their overall record to 1-6.

On Thursday, the Lady Mules traveled to Onalaska and lost in three matches, 25-14, 25-20, and 25-19.

Emmie Niemela led the team on offense with seven kills. Megan Leitz added five kills and six digs. Libero Reigha Niemeyer had five kills, and eight digs. Setter Courtney Carlson had 21 assists. Bailey Mckinley had two blocks, and was 100 percent from the service line.

The team hosted Napavine on Tuesday and won in four sets.

Leitz had eight kills, three stuff blocks, and nine digs. Carlson had 27 assists. Niemeyer, McKinley, and Lily Hale had four kills each.

"My bench tonight was on fire, and their energy is beyond important," Coach Kayli Hurley said.

The Lady Mules head to Morton/White Pass tonight (Thursday). They'll go to Longview Saturday for the RA Long Tourney and to Winlock on Tuesday. They'll host Stevenson on October 7.
