Tsuga Gallery to hold open house

April 28, 2022

Tsuga Gallery will hold an “A May Zing” Open House on Saturday, May 7, from 3-7 p.m. Ruth Doumit will be the featured artist for the month of May. This will be the first Open House for the gallery in two years. The public is invited to meet the artists and talk to them about their art, inspiration, and anything else of interest. Finger foods and refreshments will be served.

Ruth Doumit is an artist who has lived locally all her life. She is a stained glass, ceramic, and mosaic artist, along with many other mediums. Ruth Doumit Designs Studio and Gallery is located above the grocery store in the historic Doumit Building at 95 Main Street in Cathlamet. It is full of artwork and history of Wahkiakum County. Visitors are always welcome.

In 2011 Tsuga Gallery was founded by Janet Cimino, a Wahkiakum resident who had a vision to open a gallery where artists of the area could display their work and provide a place and materials to teach others art. Janet was able to be present for the first opening but sadly passed away from cancer shortly afterwards. She was able to see her dream come true, Tsuga Gallery, which is a non-profit art co-op. Membership is limited to residents of Wahkiakum County. Now that the covid restrictions have been lifted, look for future events at Tsuga Gallery.

The gallery will host Robotics art competition during the Bald Eagle Days event. Summer art classes are being planned and there may be a 3-day summer art camp for school aged youth.

If you are a new resident to the area and want to join Tsuga Gallery, hold art classes or have ideas for art, stop by the gallery. They are open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
