Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 15 — 12:37 p.m. A caller reported that a goat was loose and wandering on West Sunny Sands Road. It was last seen kneeling on the side of the road. The owner was located at 12:42 p.m. 1:58 p.m. Cattle were loose in the Grays River area. Dispatch attempted to contact the owner. 4:30 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a person at the Rosburg store complaining of chest pain. 6:39 p.m. A dog was abandoned at County Line Park. 6:57 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was unable to move after a fall. 7:59 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported hearing shots fired. The caller said that it was very loud and was causing his windows to shake.

August 16 — 6:48 a.m. A caller said that a steer belonging to a neighbor had been loose for a week. He said he had tried to contact the owner. 7:05 a.m. The county road department asked to have a squatter removed from the county rock pit. 9:35 a.m. A caller reported signs of smoke near the recent Cape Horn brush fire. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 1:57 p.m. Dispatch received a 911 call from a Cathlamet address. A sound of rustling could be heard. Dispatch called back and left a voicemail. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the caller. 3:03 p.m. A caller, concerned about the safety of neighborhood kids, reported that the driver of a black Nissan was traveling about 70 mph on North Welcome Slough Road. 4:20 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen. 6:28 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing resident on West Valley Road who was complaining of constant pain and general weakness. He was having difficulty moving. 7:09 p.m. A wallet was found on Main Street in Cathlamet and dropped off at the sheriff’s department. The owner called at 8:54 p.m. and said he would pick it up in the morning.

August 17 — 3:43 a.m. The Grays River ambulance and the Naselle ambulance responded to a Deep River home after someone complained of arm pain possibly caused by a dislocation. 8:03 a.m. An alarm was activated at an Elochoman Valley home. It turned out to be a false alarm. 9:32 a.m. A caller reported a large fire in a Puget Island field, possibly an illegal burn that was not attended. The Puget Island Fire Department responded. 11:13 a.m. An Adult Protective Services referral was received for a person in a Cathlamet home. 1:27 p.m. A caller reported that there were two dogs in a kennel on a Puget Island property without water or shelter from the sun. 2:56 p.m. A caller said that trees were blocking the view of traffic at an intersection in Cathlamet. The caller said there was an accident in that location last week. 5:28 p.m. A window was found open at the saloon in Cathlamet. A message was left with the owner. A deputy learned from people nearby that the owner was cleaning the building. The window appeared to have been opened from the inside. 7:53 p.m. A caller reported a fight between two teens and parents at a church on Puget Island. A deputy responded and learned that it had only been a verbal argument. No threats had been made. Two juveniles were trying to get to Longview, after their mother, who was homeless, had hitchhiked back to Longview. The deputy gave the two youths a courtesy transport to their grandmother’s home in Longview.

August 18 — 7:21 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident complaining of severe knee pain. 7:41 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of severe abdominal pain. 7:45 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported bank fraud. 2:44 p.m. A Cathlamet resident said that unauthorized charges had been made to her bank account. She said she reported it to her financial institution. 3:44 p.m. A caller reported that a dump truck traveling east on SR 4 was losing three inch rock on the roadway. State patrol and the Washington State Department of Transportation responded to clean it up. 4:33 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 4:50 p.m. A caller reported that a parent who appeared to be intoxicated had arrived to pick up his child from daycare. A deputy spoke with the man and said he did not appear to be intoxicated. 6:16 p.m. A caller reported that a black Nissan was speeding on North Welcome Slough Road. 8:50 p.m. The tenant of a home on Deep River Road said that the landlord had been harassing her son. She said no threats were made. She said she was being evicted and wanted this documented in case her landlord escalated. 9:41 p.m. A caller said that a known person and his girlfriend were starting fires near Wages swimming hole. A deputy checked the area and found a fire pit that had trash in it. He didn’t see anyone around. He found evidence of an unlawful fire that had been extinguished nearby.

August 19 — 10:04 a.m. A caller reported that cows were loose along SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. 2:52 p.m. A caller reported that a court order had been violated. 6:52 p.m. A caller reported that smoke was coming out of a house on Jacobson Road. The Cathlamet Fire Department, a deputy, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. A fire investigator was requested at 7:48 p.m. 6:53 p.m. A caller reported that a beat up vehicle had been left in the parking lot of a public fishing hole on Elochoman Valley Road. The owner was contacted. She said she hit a deer. 9:05 p.m. A caller reported that the driver of a black Nissan was traveling over 100 mph on North Welcome Slough Road. A deputy spoke with the registered owner. He said he was having problems with someone on North Welcome Slough Road. The deputy told him to slow down. 10:43 p.m. An alarm was activated at an Elochoman Valley home. The owner called and said to disregard. They knew it was going off and couldn’t get it to stop.

August 20 — 3:19 a.m. A caller reported that a black Nissan was speeding on North Welcome Slough Road. The caller was told that a deputy had spoken to the owner the day before. The caller said that he and his neighbor had talked about setting out spike strips or something else. He was advised that he would get a ticket if he obstructed the road. 8:44 a.m. A caller reported that a pickup truck was parked along SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area with the emergency flashers on. State patrol said they had already checked on the vehicle. 10:41 a.m. A caller reported that a black Nissan was speeding on North Welcome Slough Road around 3 a.m. 4:45 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at an east county home. Authorities in Cowlitz County responded and one person was detained. 4:48 pm. A caller said a truck and camper with a flat tire were partially blocking SR 4 at the eastern base of KM. 5:05 p.m. A caller reported the smell of smoke in the Rosedale area. 5:08 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a resident at Indian Village. Someone was later found to check on the resident and law enforcement was no longer needed. 5:24 p.m. A caller reported smelling smoke in the Rosedale area. 6:43 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a suspicious man banging on doors asking for a ride to town. 8:19 p.m. A caller reported an abandoned bike, cigarettes, and “weird disc looking things” in Cathlamet.

August 21 — 9:10 a.m. A caller reported that a truck was upside down and in a gully along SR 4 near Ingalls Road. He said the vehicle could not be seen from the roadway. He wasn’t sure when the vehicle had gone off the road. 9:39 a.m. A caller reported that people riding motorcycles were speeding and doing wheelies on West Sunny Sands Road. 10:57 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that a vehicle was partially blocking her driveway. A deputy responded. 11:24 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Beaver Creek resident. 12:43 p.m. A caller said he was assaulted sometime between 1-1:30 a.m. in Skamokawa. He thought the owner of the property might have security footage of the assault. The caller said he had suffered a laceration to his eyebrow, damage to blood vessels in his eye, and would be seeking medical attention at the ER. 2:36 p.m. A caller reported that aggressive dogs were charging people on Morgan Drive. He said he had reported a similar incident a week earlier. 2:53 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was confused and was complaining of some stomach discomfort. 4:18 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that his daughter had run away about an hour earlier. The youth was located. 6:07 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Alger Creek resident. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 6:23 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had gone into a ditch in Skamokawa. Someone attempting to pull them out was blocking SR 4. The vehicle was pulled out of the ditch and left at a Skamokawa address. 6:49 p.m. A caller reported that someone was crying while walking north on Elochoman Valley Road. She refused assistance. 7:41 p.m. A caller reported an excavator heading west and being driven erratically on SR 4. The caller said he had to swerve out of the way of the bucket.
