Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 23 — 10:39 p.m. A deputy and Skamokawa emergency personnel responded when a caller reported that a man was unconscious in his vehicle on Steamboat Slough. There were no injuries reported and the man refused transport to the hospital.

October 24 — 1:05 p.m. A caller in the Elochoman Valley area reported hearing three shots fired in quick succession. The shots were believed to have come from a vehicle parked nearby. A deputy was unable to locate the driver. 3:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was dizzy and having heart palpitations and the chills. 7:50 p.m. A caller reported basketball sized rocks on SR 4 between Nassa Point and Flandersville.

October 25 — 8:32 a.m. An East Sunny Sands resident said he would start a controlled burn around 3 p.m. 10:33 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who may have had a stroke. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 2:08 p.m. A caller reported that 10 goats were walking down West Birnie Slough Road. A deputy responded and a livestock at large warning was given. 2:49 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island home when a caller said a patient was unresponsive. A deputy started CPR and another deputy reported that an automated external defibrillator was not working. 3:23 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident after the caller made multiple calls to the home and there was no answer. A deputy responded and gave the number of Adult Protective Services to the resident. 3:46 p.m. A driver was stopped by a deputy at Dollar General. There were no other details except a licensed driver showed up to pick up the car and driver. 8:22 p.m. A caller reported a large branch in the westbound lane of SR 4 near Nassa Point. 9:36 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle in a ditch near the Vista Park sign. 10:35 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that people had parked a light colored car behind his home and were syphoning gas. He said there were possibly two people involved. A few minutes later, the caller said the car almost struck another vehicle when the people left.

October 26 — 7:42 a.m. A caller reported that two trees were blocking a Grays River Road. 10:40 a.m. Child abuse was reported at a Puget Island home. A deputy was asked to interview a child. 1:18 p.m. A caller reported that a red crew truck belonging to a logging company was speeding on a Deep River road. When she yelled at the driver, he backed up and argued with her. At 3:57 p.m., she said that the same truck was speeding again. 2:21 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Deep River resident who had not eaten for a few days. The caller said he was unable to contact the resident’s son. 2:42 p.m. A caller reported that two horses were on her Puget Island property. 2:50 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident who had not eaten for a few days.

October 27 — 2:21 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who had bloody stools and was having trouble breathing. He later complained of dizziness and said his abdominal pain was getting worse. 6:34 a.m. A caller reported that a red crew bus for a logging company was speeding on a Deep River road. 8:24 a.m. A person staying at County Line Park reported a theft. 8:50 a.m. Marijuana was found in a Wahkiakum High School student’s locker. 9:36 a.m. Staff reported that there would be a controlled burn at Vista Park. 10:13 a.m. A Puget Island resident found a basement door kicked in, a paddle lock kicked off, and a butcher knife on the ground. He did not know if anything had been taken. 5:51 p.m. A new homeowner on Puget Island found bones in her barn. She later said she believed they were elk bones. 6:34 p.m. Water had been shut off for new construction on Greenwood Road, and when it came back on it was muddy, a nearby resident said. He said that he had been running water for about two hours and it had not improved. 6:42 p.m. A driver said he wrecked his vehicle after striking a boulder and it was blocking the eastbound lane of SR 4 near Nassa Point. State patrol was notified but they were attending another accident in Pacific County. A deputy, the District 4 Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. A tow was called, but it would not arrive until the following day to pick up the car, which was moved off the road. 8:31 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who may have had a seizure. 8:46 p.m. A caller reported that a large motorhome was traveling in the wrong lane on SR 4 near Flandersville.

October 28 — 8:19 a.m. An East Valley resident said that a neighbor’s peacocks were damaging his field. 12:20 p.m. A Puget Island resident said that her neighbor’s chicken was loose on her property, an ongoing issue. She said the chicken was in a box in her garage. 4:32 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 west of County Line Park. Deputies responded but were unable to locate the vehicle. 6:12 p.m. A Puget Island resident asked to have an individual who was using meth removed from his property. A person was detained. 6:26 p.m. A caller complained about a slow driver on SR 4 heading west from Longview. 10:45 p.m. A caller reported that a driver was not able to maintain speed and had crossed the center line of SR 4 near Flandersville several times.

October 29 — 12:48 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded when a Rosedale resident fell. 1:20 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who may have suffered a broken arm after a fall. 1:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a person who fell from a ladder at the marina storage units. 2:17 p.m. An illegal dump was reported at a property east of Cathlamet. The landowner was notified. 9:54 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of a car fire on SR 4 at the eastern base of KM.

October 30 — 12:32 p.m. A caller reported that a lock had been cut off of a gate at an Elochoman Valley hatchery. The gate was open. 2:51 p.m. A caller asked to speak to a deputy about a family member who made some questionable posts about obtaining a firearm on social media. 4:29 p.m. Dispatch received repeated 911 calls from a Cathlamet location, but it was believed that no one should be at that address. The gates were locked. After the third 911 call, dispatch called back and found the number no longer in service. 10:18 p.m. A caller reported that his wife had contacted him after she heard someone outside their Elochoman Valley home.
