Family friendly events offered on Long Beach Peninsula

The Long Beach Peninsula is a great place to be active, while exploring the beauty of the Washington Coast. The Long Beach Peninsula will host a series of family-friendly active events this Spring and Summer to keep busy.

Upcoming family friendly, active events include the following:

· Pacific Coast Running Festival (May 12-14) is a three-day, fun-filled festival that has events for kids, a non-competitive bike tour, and several race options that are USATF-certified and professionally timed including a sand marathon, a half marathon, 5k/10k run or walk, and a sunset 5k run or walk.

· Peninsula Heart & Stroke Walk (June 3) is a three-mile walk (or one-mile walk for survivors of a stroke or any form of heart disease) along the scenic Discovery Trail. Put on by Ocean Beach Hospital and the American Heart Association, this walk for a cause raises money for heart disease and stroke research, as well as life-saving CPR training.  46th Annual Beach to Chowder (June 10) offers a relaxed or competitive 5k, 10k, and half-marathon run or walk on hard packed sand along the Pacific Ocean shoreline. The 10k-course takes in portions of Discovery Trail and the half-marathon is a USATF-certified course on Discovery Trail.

· Ride the Willapa (June 24) is a family friendly bike ride on portions of the 56-mile long Willapa Hills Trail that runs from Chehalis to South Bend, Wash. The trail route parallels portions of the Chehalis River through rolling farmland and densely wooded areas. Ideally located at the confluence of the Pacific Ocean and the Columbia River, the Long Beach Peninsula is host to more than 50 annual festivals and events.
