Town Council Report

Council welcomes librarian; conflict facilitator sought

The Library Board welcomed Vickie Franklin as the new librarian and existing members were approved. The council approved the budget items with the library choosing to clean the existing carpet rather than replacing it. The library needs a new computer table and chair as well as a new laptop computer. As a follow-up, the library has been utilizing the Community Center for larger events, including Story Time for children, and the Pioneer Church. In a discussion led by Councilman Chamberlain, the Pioneer Church Association is encouraging groups and individuals to utilize the building for events. The cost to maintain the building is a priority. The costs include insurance and fire safety. A sub-committee was appointed to organize a retreat with a conflict management facilitator to help mend the relationship between the mayor and the town council. Councilman Stowe agreed that the need to repair the issues was needed but accused the mayor of not apologizing for overstepping his bounds and not supporting the council members. As a result, Stowe did not support the action to bring in a conflict facilitator, insisting that the mayor owes the council accountability for his behavior. The Waterfront Park planning is still on the table with the location of the restrooms a priority.

The Public Works Department gave their report. Their request for a new truck was denied until more data can be gathered about possible repairs. A tractor and bore mole were approved.
