Wahkiakum rebounds after Naselle loss

The Wahkiakum Mules baseball team had a tough loss last Tuesday against Naselle, giving up seven runs over the first three innings and only coming up with two over the following four. Israel Velke had the lone RBI of the game for the Mules, and Zane Propst and Preston West scored the team's only two runs. Aiden Scott and Parker Leitz three three innings apiece for the Mules, striking out a combined four batters and allowing only two earned runs.

The Mules rebounded Friday, April 25, against Oakville. Giving up two runs in the second, the Mules came up with two of their own in the fourth, another three in the fifth, and seven in the sixth to secure the mercy-rule 12-2 victory. Cooper Carlson led the Mules with three RBI and three runs, and Matthew Wills led the team in hits with three. Emory Filkowski led the Mules from the mound with nine innings and no earned runs over six innings pitched.

The Mules would win again Monday, April 28 at Ocosta in extra innings in what Coach Rob Garrett described as a "wild game." Falling down 1-0, the Mules would score twice in the third but would give up three in the bottom half of the third to trail 4-2. Wahkiakum would tie the score in the top of the fifth and take the lead in the top of the sixth. Down to their last frame, Ocosta tied the game at 5-5 to send the game to extras. Wahkiakum would put two more runs on the board in the top of the 10th and would hold off Ocosta for the 7-5 victory. The Mules were led by Aiden Scott, who had two RBI and two hits. Left fielder M Curl had three hits to lead the Mules, and Leitz and Carlson scored two runs apiece in the narrow victory.
