Clatskanie baseball wins ninth straight

Following its 16-0 victory last Friday in Vernonia, the Clatskanie High School boys baseball team has now won nine straight games. Putting up seven runs in both the first and second innings, other Tigers jumped out to an early 14-0 lead. Adding another run in the fourth and a final run in the fifth inning, Clatskanie was able to complete the mercy-rule win.

The Tigers were led by juniors Luke Andreasen and Finn McDonnell, who had three RBI each scored a collective four runs. Junior Zach Mollenhour led the team with three runs scored while collecting two hits and adding two RBI. Senior Brendan Shroll had two RBI and scored two runs while collecting a hit, while juniors Bode Shulda and Cash Doney and senior Carter White added an RBI each and scored a collective five runs.

The Tigers were led from the mound by Mollenhour, who struck out five batters while allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. Shulda came into the game in relief of Mollenhour, striking out one and allowing zero base runners over an inning pitched.

Clatskanie (12-3) traveled to Knappa Tuesday in the hopes of extending the team’s win streak to 10. The Tigers return home this Friday, May 9, to take on Knappa at Clatskanie High School. The JV game begins at 3 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
