Council extends application deadline for Position No. 2

Following former Councilmember Kermit Chamberlin's resignation on April 21, the Town of Cathlamet put out an ad to fill the vacancy for Position No. 2. Going into Monday evening's session, only two applicants had filed. With the meeting's agenda calling for an executive session to review the applicants and, eventually, the appointment of one of those applicants, Councilmember Jeanne Hendrickson voiced her concern over coming to a decision so quickly. "I just feel that with the weight of what the town is dealing with right now, as a councilmember, I would feel more comfortable to leave this door open and have a little bit more communication," she said. "I'm not the whole Council, but that's my opinion... People I'm talking to weren't aware enough." Hendrickson also hinted she has "other people who are interested." Following Hendrickson's remarks, Mayor David Olson asked about a possible postponement until the next meeting. Hendrickson then replied, "I don't want to say two weeks. I want to say two to four weeks."

In response to Hendrickson, Councilmember Laurel Waller advocated, "How about we, for right now, push for two weeks but see what comes in?" Following a consensus from councilmembers, the agenda item was postponed until the May 19 session "subject to Council discretion."

Before moving on with the meeting, Olson said, "I would like to thank the two Council candidates for coming and attending tonight, and please come back in two weeks."
