Respect and kindness

I want to take a moment to talk about something deeply important: how we treat one another. Respect and kindness should be at the heart of every interaction, especially in a small community like ours. If we want to raise strong, kind, and respectful children, we must lead by example. That means showing tact, empathy, and dignity in our daily lives.

Sadly, there have been instances in our community where people have been mistreated simply for holding different opinions or living differently. That’s unacceptable. True leadership means leading with integrity and with a heart full of respect. Anyone who holds a position of power but uses it to belittle others, throw tantrums, or behave with arrogance does not belong in that role.

Many of us have seen individuals who consistently act without maturity or grace and these are people who are well into adulthood but still behave like bullies. Age does not excuse bad behavior, and being older is never a free pass to treat others poorly. Emotional abuse, disrespect toward coworkers, and especially disrespect toward women should never be tolerated — it’s not strength, and it’s certainly not manhood.

We are all accountable for our choices. I choose to support leaders who embody real professionalism and genuine respect for others. As you consider who you want representing this community, think carefully. Look at their history. If someone has repeatedly shown disrespect or created division, ask yourself if that’s the kind of energy we want leading us forward.

With care and conviction,

Robin Baker,

Cathlamet
