On Friday, July 11, from 4-6 p.m., Tsuga Gallery (70 Main St.) will be celebrating its 14th anniversary. Founded in 2011 by the late Janet Kerstetter Cimino, Tsuga Gallery has become a cornerstone in Cathlamet. We will be having an open house with live music by Donnie Wages, finger food, beverages, door prizes, games, and more. Come by and meet the talented artists and authors that make up the membership of the gallery. All but one of the artists are from Wahkiakum County, with one being from Pacific County. Founding benefactor Janet Kerstetter Cimino grew up in Wahkiakum County and had a vision to bring a little “culture” to the area and provide a place for art and art education. Kerstetter saw her vision come true in July 2011 when she cut the ribbon during the grand opening, only to pass away from cancer a few days later. The name “Tsuga” is Japanese for the prolific Western Hemlock tree that grows so well in this climate. In the spirit of Janet, the gallery has become a permanent fixture in downtown Cathlamet, where people can shop for photos, paintings, cards, jewelry, ceramics, functional art, books, C.D.’s and more. Tsuga provides a place for artists to gather and share their art. Classes are offered from time to time, with some summer classes for kids coming up in August. Tsuga will be having a coloring session during Bald Eagle Days, and all materials will be provided. Mark your calendar for Friday, July 11, and stop by the gallery for a fun evening of entertainment and a great time to meet the artists that make the gallery successful. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m - 4 p.m. You can also find Tsuga Gallery on Facebook.
