Sheriff's Report

June 30 4:35 a.m. A Grays River resident called to inform Sheriff’s deputies of a vehicle that looked to be a log truck with red and blue lights on it like an emergency vehicle driving on N Hull Creek Road. 4:25 p.m. A Skamokawa resident called to report a junk vehicle on Elochoman Valley Road. 9:10 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies assisted a driver parked at a Cathlamet Business who had locked their keys in their vehicle. 9:44 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a person known to them stole their vehicle and that they hit another car on East Valley Road as they were driving away.

July 1 10:35 a.m. The stolen vehicle from Skamokawa was identified with the individual who was alleged to have taken the vehicle. The subject who was driving was found to have multiple outstanding warrants and was arrested with the assistance of Cowlitz and their K9 officer. 10:46 p.m. A Deep River Resident called to report a dead deer in the road between Miller Point and the Deep River River Bridge.

July 2 11:34 a.m. The Cathlamet Emergency Services responded to assist a Puget Island resident who hurt their back while moving heavy equipment. 1:13 p.m. A Grays River resident called to report that their neighbor was upset about them building something on their own property and the neighbor made a threatening comment, went back to their property, and fired off several gunshots in the distance. 2:44 p.m. A driver called to report a vehicle driving erratically on SR4 near County Line Park Rd. 2:53 p.m. A concerned citizen on Main Street reported seeing a driver open a beer in their vehicle. When deputies responded, however, they could not locate the reported driver or vehicle.

July 3 9:54 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies assisted a Cathlamet resident who had locked their keys in their vehicle. 11:34 p.m. A Puget Island resident called to report that their neighbor’s fireworks from the night before had caused a small fire on their property and wanted to have it documented in case of further damage. 7:37 p.m. Grays River Ambulance responded to transport an elderly Grays River resident to the hospital for breathing difficulties. 11:14 p.m. A Puget Island resident called to report that people were in their driveway yelling at them for setting off fireworks. 11:53 p.m. An individual came to the courthouse to request assistance with a place to stay or a ride home after attending a conference and did not realize the bus they relied on did not travel to Long Beach. The individual was offered a room at the Cathlamet Hotel, which they would be responsible for paying for on their own.

July 4 1:08 a.m. The Grays River Ambulance transported an elderly Naselle resident to the hospital for breathing difficulties. 12:22 p.m. A Puget Island resident called to report that a strange alarm had been ringing somewhere nearby since the night before. Sheriff’s deputies responded and discovered that the sound was coming from a boat docked near East Birnie Slough. 2:05 p.m. A concerned citizen called to report that there were several individuals lighting off fireworks at the KM Transfer Station; deputies arrived and asked them to leave. 3:10 p.m. A driver on SR 4 reported an erratic driver going at a high rate of speed eastbound near Elochoman Valley Road. Sheriff deputies reported seeing the driver going the speed limit and driving straight when they passed. 5:28 p.m. The Cathlamet Ambulance responded to provide a lift assist to an elderly resident of Cathlamet who had fallen. 6 p.m. Wahkiakum County Fire Departments responded to an ongoing brush fire along SR4, west of Nassa Point. SR4 closed both directions overnight and several residents were advised to evacuate. 10:38 p.m. A rural Cathlamet resident called to report that some people were seen riding ATVs on a prohibited logging road, and one ATV had multiple people on it. 11:38 p.m. A driver on SR4 reported an erratic driver who seemed to be intoxicated was going a very slow rate on speed and swerving near the west county line.

July 5 8:16 a.m. The Grays River Ambulance and Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle rollover on SR4 in Grays River. The driver was assisted from the vehicle and the roadway was cleared. 11:21 a.m. A Rosburg resident called to report a junk vehicle on Malone Road. 11:36 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of possible theft and potential minor damages at a business in Rosburg. 12:37 p.m. A Cathlamet resident called to report seeing an injured deer walking down Main Street towards Puget Island. 5:45 p.m. A concerned citizen called to report an unknown person digging through a dumpster on Puget Island. When deputies made contact with the person, they claimed they had permission to look through the dumpster and find their books. 7:40 p.m. Cathlamet resident called to report their neighbors for animal cruelty, claiming the neighbor left their dog in the garage by themselves all weekend. Deputies informed the reporting person that there was nothing they could do at that time.

July 6 7:34 a.m. The Cathlamet Emergency Services transported a Cathlamet resident to the hospital for dizziness after a fall. 9:58 a.m. A caller on SR 4 reported that a trailer was blocking the highway west of Wainamo Road while the driver was changing a tire. 10:22 a.m. The Wahkiakum Fire Districts responded to extinguish a structure fire on East Valley Road in Skamokawa. 1:04 p.m. A driver on SR4 called to report an erratic driver performing aggressive lane changes near Boege Road. 3:54 p.m. The Grays River Ambulance responded to assist a Grays River resident who was experiencing abdominal pain. 5:53 p.m. The Wahkiakum County Fire Districts responded to extinguish a structural fire on Nelson Creek Road. 7:43 p.m. A Cathlamet resident called to report someone riding an ATV up and down Columbia Street at a high rate of speed without a helmet.
