HELLO. We are now over 1,500 members at our Library. Thank you!
FICTION PICK. Our highlighted pick is “Necessary Lies,” a novel by New York Times bestselling author Diane Chamberlain. “Necessary Lies” is a story about two young women in 1960 whose worlds come together in North Carolina. It’s a powerful insight into our past American history and the choices these two women face in a traumatic manner. A story of love, loyalty and asking one’s self, “When everyone is telling you something is wrong, how are you certain what you are told is true and accurate?”
KID PICK. This week we highlight “Rascal,” a 60-plus-year classic by author Sterling North. “Rascal” is a wonderful memoir of a boy and the pet raccoon he raises. The two become the best of friends and, from there, the adventures begin, as they do everything together. Then, that one day happens and, with it, everything changes for the boy and his best friend, Rascal.
PEOPLE’S VOICE. My first official act of moving to Cathlamet from out of the country was getting my Cathlamet library card,” said local Danielle with apparent pride. Danielle and her family had just recently flown in from France, having lived and worked there, and now they live out on Puget Island, where Danielle, as a child, often visited her grandparents. “When we first moved to France, I couldn’t find a library,” said Danielle. Eventually, one was located after a bit of frustration and much searching. She proudly mentioned having received and kept five library cards over the years. Before Danielle left the library that day, she made clear, “The library is the best safe space ever.”
VOLUNTEERS. We now only need one more adult volunteer for our weekly D&D game activity. Are you interested in helping out? Contact the library.
PASSES. Need a free Discoverer Pass for an upcoming vacation/trip? Or a free Columbia River Maritime Museum Pass in Astoria? Reserve your free pass at the library. Limit one pass per family.
SUMMER READING. Kids are really enjoying their summer reading-activity program. The first 30 minutes are filled with fun activities. The next 30 minutes, kids enjoy a read-aloud story time with unique audio sound effects. Come to Erickson Park (581 Columbia St.) every Thursday from 1 – 2 p.m. A special thank you goes out to Jennifer and Collette.
