CHANGE IS COMING. If the weather folks are correct, it looks like we will have some cooler temperatures coming this week along with some moisture, and while many may hate to see the rain arrive, I will be happy to see it. Everything is so dry, my lawn is a lousy color of brown, and with fires everywhere, I think a drink for the plants and trees would be great. By now, all of the hay growers should have had enough time to get their crops in, and maybe we can get these showers out of the way before the big county fair takes place a couple of weeks from now.

WINE TASTING AND AUCTION. The Friends of Skamokawa (FOS) will be holding a live "Wine Tasting & Auction Gala" to support the Redman Hall which will take place on Oct.18 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Rat Tap Bar in Cathlamet located at 90 Broadway Street. This is a major fundraiser for the FOS and they have wonderful donations to bid on. As always, there will be plenty of food and wine to enjoy, so mark those calendars now for this fun, Fall event, October 18.
THIS SATURDAY. Just another quick reminder that there will be Bingo over at the Norse Hall this Saturday, August 9 with the doors to the lower level open at 5:30 and games beginning at 6 pm. Head that way and support the Sons of Norway.
SCHOOL STARTS. I swear, I thought school just got out but now they tell me that school will be beginning in just a short time, so I hope you're stocking up on all those school supplies now while the shelves are full of all they need to start the new year. When I heard of all the things that kids need today, and the cost, well, I'm just really glad my kids are grown and gone now! At any rate, there will probably be some places to donate items if you're able so watch for those and help if you can. School starts on August 26 so students enjoy your last 18 days of summer vacation.
FAIR TIME. In case you didn't know it, "Boots, Chaps & Cowboy Hats" is the theme of the 117th annual Wahkiakum County Fair. So if you're drawing pictures, or taking pictures or making something to put in the fair, you might get a few brownie points if you incorporate the theme in your work, just a thought. We are pleased to have this years' fair dedicated to Amber Eaton, who does a whole lot for our fair when it comes to hard work and fund raising, thank you so much for all you do Amber! If you get a weekend pass in advance, they are only seven dollars but they go up to eight dollars on Thursday. The daily admission is five dollars for adults, three dollars for those 13-18 and two dollars for those 5-12. Children under 5 are free. Those are really great prices folks but if you're truly in a bind for money, there are days when you can get in for free. Thursday is Senior Citizen Day/Military Day and friday is free for First Responders and Military. Saturday, all children 12 and under can get in free all day long...woo-hoo! I really love the fair as I have a "no cooking" rule for those three days as I fully support the food booths during that time. Anyway, here's hoping the weather co-operates with our wonderful county fair, and we hope you'll come and support all the vendors, enjoy the music, the exhibits and all the other things that are happening at the fair.
