DRIED OUT. The beginning of this week was supposed to be pretty hot, so I hope you have all managed to get through that heatwave without any issues, as more moderate temperatures are expected to be in place by the time you read this. It should go without saying that we all need to be very careful with any heat source right now that could cause a fire, as it seems there are currently massive fires burning in many areas. We don’t want to join the trend, so please be extra careful with any heat sources right now. Don’t forget to check those tow chains too; a spark from one of those could be hazardous.

NEXT WEEK! Yes indeed, it’s almost fair time as it’s going to be a fun-filled, three-day event happening on August 21, 22, and 23 at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds here in Skamokawa! Come on down and support our fair, which has been going strong for 117 years, featuring a variety of exhibits, vendors, music, and, of course, lots of animals. We hope to see you there. As you all know by now, it’s always been my rule: I let them do the cooking for all three days. Here’s to another successful year, with the “Boots, Chaps and Cowboy Hats” theme sure to be a big hit. Have fun!

FRIDAY AFTERNOONS. I hope you’re checking out the Elochoman Marina Street Market, which is held each Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. There have been some great items there; I loved the honey I bought, and I picked up a few things for Christmas too! This street market runs through September 26, but why not go now while the weather is just absolutely perfect and so is the view!

VISTA PARK. It won’t be long, and the 2025 Kite Festival and Vendor Fair will be taking place at our wonderful Skamokawa Vista Park, located just west of the Skamokawa Creek bridge on SR 4. This will be held on Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you’d like to participate as a vendor, the cost is $10. Please call 360-795-8605 or contact TERINA@WAHPORT2.ORG. For more information on the event, please visit their Facebook page, Vista Park-Skamokawa, WA, or their website at http://www.wahport2.org.

CONDOLENCES. We were sorry to hear of Sandy Bussone Rodal’s passing this past weekend. Her daughter, Kristin Page, mentioned that she passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, August 10th. She also said a service will be held for her in Cathlamet soon, and she will share the details once they are arranged. We extend our sincere condolences to her entire family, including her sister, Sue Johnson, who lives in Cathlamet, and her brother and former classmate, Ed Bussone, from 1967. Again, our sympathies go out to all of her family and friends.

GET WELL WISHES. We want to give a shout-out to one of our favorite gals, Jeanne Paulsen, as she’s been dealing with some health issues lately. We hope to see her feeling 100 percent chipper once again, real soon. Take care, Jeanne, we are all thinking of you and wishing you the best! We also want to give a shout-out to the three Tomlinson kids, who have been dealing with some health issues, with Danny even needing surgery. We hope they all fully recover by the time this goes to print! We also hope their grandma, Sherry Ostling, gains some strength; we wish her the best as well.

GOT HOT. As I finished this article, my thermometer was reading 101 degrees... ugh! I think I’ll stay in the basement. I hope all of you managed to stay relatively cool and remember that our four-legged friends need extra water right now and a shady spot to escape the sun. Stay cool, stay safe!
