Little Woo's Brews: small stand, big heart

In case you haven't rolled through yet, there's a bright little coffee stand tucked in the Chevron parking lot in Cathlamet, and it's serving up a lot more than just espresso. Little Woo's Brews is a double-sided drive-thru run by longtime local barista Courtney Carlson - better known to most as "Little Woo."

If the name sounds personal, that's because it is. "The name 'Little Woo' was my childhood nickname from my parents and growing up it just stuck," Courtney said. "Everyone who knows me from when I was a kid still calls me Little Woo."

Courtney worked at the stand for two and a half years before she bought it from former owner Julie Black, who she describes not just as a boss, but as family. "Julie was not only just my boss but she became family to me... she truly became like my grandma that I have always wanted and needed in my life."

Taking over the stand was a leap - but one she says she'll never regret. "It was by far the best decision I have ever made." Her first day as owner was the busiest shift she'd ever worked. "I felt such a huge sense of gratitude by all of the support from everyone in the community. It exceeded my expectations by a million."

She's since put her own stamp on the business, with fresh paint, upgraded signs, and a fun signature drink menu featuring names like The Logger (her dad), Mom's Garden (her mom), Brothers Brew (her four brothers), The Sweetheart (her boyfriend Dominic), and The Little Woo - her own creation - a vanilla chai with coconut cold foam.

She's got a strong team behind her. "My parents, Brad and Leihanna, and my boyfriend, Dominic," she said, "have taught me so much and supported me through it all." Her brothers, Beau, Brody, Zakkary, and Cooper, always show up to help - and Julie still cheers her on.

When it's gray outside, she recommends a white chocolate and peppermint mocha or a vanilla chai with coconut. Seasonal specials are posted on social media and shared far and wide by loyal fans.

"What I love most about having my shop in Cathlamet is all the people I get to meet... I love getting to hear where people are from and why they are traveling out this way."

Whether you're heading to work or heading to the coast, Little Woo's Brews is ready to brighten your day - one cup at a time.
