Bill Littlefield is Tsuga Gallery's featured artist for October. Bill grew up in California, about 35 miles east of San Francisco. As a young boy, he would go on camping trips with his family into the Sierra Nevada mountains. He later joined the Boy Scouts, who also made many memorable trips to the Sierras. These trips gave him the early ideas of capturing the beauty of the mountains on film. Bill's first photographs were taken of family gatherings using an SLR camera. Waiting for the film to be developed seemed to take forever and, sometimes, he forgot what was on the roll of film. This all changed when he was able to get a digital camera and could get immediate feedback. Bill moved to Naselle with his wife, Debbi, in 1997, and that is when he decided to take photography more seriously.
Having no formal training on the subject, he read several books and joined a couple of photography groups. Bill gained considerable knowledge but gives credit to his wife who, as an art teacher, gave him a different perspective on the subject. Flowers are his favorite thing to photograph, but nothing is off the table. With the advent of numerous post processing programs, Bill enjoys experimenting. He states that while he creates for his own pleasure, he hopes others find pleasure in his photos as well. His work is on display at Tsuga Gallery, located at 70 Main St. in Cathlamet and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please stop by and check it out.
