Election results begin to come in

On Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 8:04 p.m., the Washington Secretary of State’s website released the results, thus far, for the general election. According to the website, 1,492 ballots had been counted and an estimated 400 ballots were left to be counted.

In the race for Mayor of Cathlamet, Nicholas Sevald has 65.99 percent of the votes (130), and Laurel Waller has 33.5 percent of the votes (66). Prior to the election results, Sevald said, “Come what may, I love this community. Win or lose, I always will. I promise to keep striving to help this town prosper. Thank you all for your kindness over these last six months and beyond.” Waller said, “I love that the citizens get to choose.”

For the Wahkiakum County Assessor position, Drew Jenkins has 60.24 percent of the votes (859), while Justin Moriarty has 39.62 percent (565). “Many thanks to the voters of Wahkiakum County for their support,” said Jenkins. “It is humbling to know so many people are placing their trust in me. I will work hard to live up to that.” In the race for Wahkiakum County Sheriff, John Mason has 88.74 percent of the votes (1,308), while Josh Grasseth has 11.06 percent of the votes (163). Running unopposed for Wahkiakum County Clerk, Jess Reddon has 99.1 percent of the votes (1,100). "I so much appreciate all the support our community has given me throughout my life," said Mason. "The way in which we take care of each other is one of the most important reasons that I have dedicated my service to Wahkiakum County. I am humbled to have earned the confidence of so many of you, and I am honored to continue to serve as your Sheriff."

Other results tallied Tuesday night were state measures like Washington State Senate Joint Resolution No. 8201. The 763 votes rejecting the proposal represent 56.52 percent while the 587 votes of approval account for 43.48 percent. The Wahkiakum Public Utility District Proposition No. 1 has 989 votes (71.61 percent) of approval and 392 votes (28.39 percent) of rejection. Specific to the Town of Cathlamet, Proposition No. 1 has a 64.06 percent rejection rate with 123 votes, and a 35.94 percent approval rate with 69 votes.

With respect to the Town’s three positions for Town Council, Crystal Baker has 98.03 percent of the votes (149) for Council Position No. 2. Tyson Clark has 68.18 percent of the votes (120) for Council Position No. 4, while Julia McCoy has 30.68 percent (54). Mike Severson has 90.2 percent of the votes (138) for Council Position No. 5.

For Port District 1 Commissioner #1, James Sorenson, running unopposed, has 98.96 percent of the votes (569). For Port District 2 Commissioner #2, Mary Hogue, running unopposed, has 99.05 percent of the votes (519). For School District #155 Director District 2, Amy Hunt, running unopposed, has 97.84 percent of the votes (181). For School District #155 Director District 4, Natasha Carter, running unopposed, has 97.69 percent of the votes (169). For School District #155 Director District 5, John Larson, running unopposed, has 98.27 percent of the votes (170). For School District 200 Director #1, Shawn Merz has 61. 43 percent of the votes (680), while Garrett Radcliffe, though announcing the suspension of his campaign effective Sept. 15, still has 37.85 percent of the votes (419). For School District 200 Director #3, Sue O’Connor, running unopposed, has 97.92 percent of the votes (895). For School District 200 Director #5 - At Large, Bobbie Stefan, running unopposed, has 98.2 percent of the votes (874). For Fire Protect Dist. 1 Commissioner #1, John Nelson, running unopposed, has 98.51 percent of the votes (264). For Fire Protect Dist. 2 Commissioner #3, Brian O’Connor, has 72.36 percent of the votes (89), while opponent Stephen W. Lewis has 26.83 percent of the votes (33). For Fire Protect Dist. 3 Commissioner #3, Mark Letham, running unopposed, has 100 percent of the votes (189). For Fire Protect Dist. 4 Commissioner #3, Larry Hendrickson, running unopposed, has 99.76 percent of the votes (410). For Cemetery District 2 Commissioner #2, Kent Martin, running unopposed, has 100 percent of the votes (106). For Cemetery District 2 Commissioner #3, Steve McClain, running unopposed, has 96.15 percent of the votes (100).
