Gingerbread house kits available at library

In collaboration with Tsuga Gallery and the annual Tree Lighting and Lighted Parade event, the Cathlamet Public Library will be providing gingerbread house kits for children to build and decorate for display at the library and various businesses in town. The gingerbread house kits will be available at the library Saturday, Nov. 22 during open hours. After you've built your gingerbread house, you may bring it to the Pioneer Community Center lower room on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m. for final decorating and display at the library or participating businesses in town.

A big Thank you to the Library Foundation group. When hearing the need for someone to make available the 40 gingerbread house kits, they stepped-forward and made the purchase. Their quick support made it possible for children to enjoy this holiday craft activity.

Each week, Wednesday Club, which takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. inside the library, provides a social space for folks to gather, meet, and relax. We had our first Wednesday Club Nov. 5, and it was hosted by Puget Island Gardens. Nine people showed up to enjoy the quiet evening, as well as pizza, salad, breadsticks, and beverages.

Library services are not available during this time; however, the library space is provided for you to enjoy a social evening away from home, while following library guidelines. Need a place to visit with friends? How about a place just to sit, read or even do jigsaw puzzles?

This evening library time is designed to be a safe, respectful, and enjoyable place for you to gather. Overhead lights will be kept to a minimum, with table and floor lamps provided for a softer atmosphere for all.

The Cathlamet Public Library will be offering new Friday hours, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning Nov. 14. All other hours will remain the same.

In collaboration with the local Wahkiakum schools, the library and school staff sought this opportunity in support of students who have completed their Friday Academic Success school work by providing a place where they may continue with their school work or simply relax and read.

The library and its services remain open for the general public during these new hours. The library will be extending "Free Cookie Saturday" to "Free Cookie Friday and Saturday".

A big thank you goes out to elementary and middle school Principal Nikki Reese for her recommendations and support with this collaboration.

Cathlamet Public Library is located at 115 Columbia St. and is open Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.
