News of Grays, River, Rosburg and Deep River

Marilyn Gudmundsen

Mrs. Olive Barr Malone a native and longtime resident of Grays River is in a Portland Hospital with a broken hip. She was the victim of a fall, and surely would appreciate mail from old friends. She is an aunt and cousin to DeWitt and Louise Barr and Ruth McAllister and Adelaide Gollersrud. She is 91 years young. Her current address is Portland Advent hospital, 6040 S.E. Belmont, Portland 97215.

Thanks to hostesses Nancy Adams and Diana Smalley for the delicious dessert following the Rosburg Club meeting last Thursday.

The nursery of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Evans is well-equipped for their expected baby after three showers last week. Cyndi’s first grade students surprised her on Monday morning. Helping hostesses were Patty Moore, Thelma Miller and Linda Nelson.

After school the teachers and staff met at Bonnie Lindquists home for another surprise.

On Tuesday evening 34 ladies enjoyed a social shower and delicious refreshments, hosted by Patty Moore, Linda Nelson, Bonnie Lindquist and Clair Stephen.

The VFW Post No. 7825 will hold its annual lutefisk dinner on December 7 at the high school cafeteria.

Mr. and Mrs. Craig Habakangas of Seattle visited with Elsie Torppa last Saturday.

Linda Cox will be hostess for a bridal shower for Susie Anderson of Naselle, bride-to-be of Rick Magnuson. The event will be December 7 at 2 p.m. at the Naselle Congregational church.

Saturday evening dinner guests at the Ed Sorenson home were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Vincent and Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Otterson.

Don’t we have talented people in our county? In June this year Cynda Webb took second place at the State Grange level in the cake baking contest and won a cash prize. More recently the Washington State Grange news reports in an article written by Mary Richmond, State Grange women’s activities chairman, that our Thelma Miller, sponsored by the Grays River Grange, received second place for her patchwork pillow pattern in the Bucilla kit judging at the state and national level.

Her patchwork pattern design has been purchased by the Bucilla company for marketing as a pillow kit. It will carry her name and will also publicize the Grange organization.

Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Anderson of Naselle are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Susie, to Pvt. Richard Magnuson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Magnuson of Rosburg.

The wedding will take place on December 27, 1975 at 2 p.m. at the Naselle Congregational church with a reception following at the Naselle VFW hall.

The couple are both 1975 graduates of Naselle High school. Miss Anderson is employed in Naselle, and Pvt. Magnuson is in the U.S. Army and is currently stationed at Ft. Lewis.
