Hudson Park Elementary seeks donations for playground grant match

Hudson Park Elementary (HPE) is in the process of raising $300,000 in funds to overhaul the onsite playground. The playground has not been updated in decades. In a letter to the public, Principal Megan Keplinger wrote, “While our equipment continues to meet safety standards, it is aging and lacks the accessibility, protection, and innovation our students deserve. Without a covered area, children can only use the playground when the weather is ideal, limiting opportunities for outdoor play, movement, and social connection during much of the school year.”

The Parent Teacher Organization, administration, staff, and Board of Directors of HPE have come together to pursue multiple funding sources, including corporate partnerships, community donations, and grants. One key grant, if selected, requires the school to first secure an equal amount in matching funds prior to the grant submission deadline of Dec. 16, 2025.

According to the HPE project proposal document, the $300,000 will pay for a new multifunctional play structure ($100,000), recycled rubber ground covering for safety and accessibility ($100,000), and a shade and rain cover installed over the play structure ($100,000).

The school is offering various recognition opportunities for larger donors, such as the “Visionary Leader” donation level at $50,000 for the title name on playground signage, the “Impact Maker” or “Community Champion” at $25,000 and $10,000 respectively for name inclusion on the signage.
