Keith Freels

September 30, 1934 – December 19, 2025

Keith Freels passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 91.

Keith was born on September 30, 1934, and grew up in Missouri alongside his four siblings, with whom he shared close bonds and lifelong friendships. From an early age, Keith valued connection, loyalty, and community-qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.

In his younger years, Keith moved to Idaho, where he embraced the rodeo lifestyle. He did rodeo competitively, specializing in bull riding and bareback, and earned the nickname "The Pocatello Kid." This chapter defined the rest of his life through adventurous spirit, grit, and love of the outdoors. Keith's continued love of the rodeo was prominent, attending them whenever he could get the chance. With his favorite being the Pendleton Round-up.

Keith proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he worked as an engineer and achieved the rank of Corporal Specialist. He served in Korea, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty, leadership, and service.

After leaving the military, Keith moved throughout the United States before settling in Clatskanie, Oregon. It was there that he met the love of his life, Lorrine Freels, his wife of over 53 years. Together, Keith and Lorene continued their journey, living in Texas and Alaska before returning to the Rainier/Clatskanie area, where they made their forever home.

Keith worked for many years at the local mills, from which he eventually retired. He also dedicated his time to public service through the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, where he was especially active in the Mounted Posse along with Search and Rescue. Keith deeply enjoyed working with others and was well known for his friendly nature and wide circle of friends.

Above all, Keith loved his family and animals-especially his horses. This love led him on countless hunting, horseback riding, fishing and camping trips throughout the Pacific Northwest, all places where he felt the most at peace. Known for his great sense of humor and free spirit, Keith had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued.

Keith will be remembered for his kindness, service, adventurous spirit, and the many lives he touched.

A graveside service will be held on January 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Park Cemetery in Rainier, Oregon. A lunch and Celebration of Life will follow immediately afterward at the American Legion Hall in Clatskanie.
