Popular thrift and antique store in Rainier, Mee Maw’s Attic, announced Monday, Jan. 19, they will be closing their business, citing ongoing health reasons. Owner Jill Parker shared she’s suffered a series of heart attacks in recent months. These, as well as other health concerns, have made taking care of her health and managing the store too challenging to continue operations. Parker expects to close the doors within the next couple weeks, but no definitive date has been announced as she works to clear out existing inventory.
Parker and husband, Tom, opened the store in 2022 and featured a rotating selection of home goods, jewelry, collectibles, antiques, clothing, and consignment items. Parker and Mee Maw’s Attic have been active participants in supporting community efforts and fundraisers. They sponsored the Rivertime in Rainier concert, held fundraisers for HOPE of Rainier and the Rainier Senior Center, and donated goods to those in need.
Announcing the closure on her Facebook page, Parker stated it was “the hardest post” she’s ever made. Community members commented with understanding and support of her decision and expressed their gratitude for all she, and the store, have contributed to the community.
“I’m sad beyond words,” said Parker. “We loved the community and being so active, but our hearts and health take precedence.” Parker plans to continue being actively involved in the community in her role as a board member for the Rainier Chamber of Commerce and other opportunities as they arise.
