You may have noticed my column hasn’t appeared as frequently in the paper recently. As my life has shifted, so has the time I’m able to devote to regularly covering the West End. That said, I don’t want to see that coverage fade. It matters.
The West End of Wahkiakum County is filled with community gatherings, school events, quiet acts of kindness, and the everyday moments that don’t make headlines but define who we are. It’s a place rich in history and shaped by hardworking people whose stories deserve to be told and remembered. Our community is also home to a deep well of talented authors, creative writers, historians, photographers, and storytellers who see this place through unique lenses and have voices worth sharing.
I would love to see Westside Stories grow into a truly collaborative space that reflects a wide range of perspectives and experiences from across our community. Whether your roots here run generations deep or you’re a newer neighbor still finding your footing, your voice has value. If you’ve ever thought about contributing, whether it’s a story idea, a memory, a feature, or coverage of a local event, I encourage you to reach out to me, or to Ian or Kirk at the Eagle office either by calling 360-795-3391 or emailing editor@waheagle.com.
Westside Stories will continue to focus on community events and happenings, human-interest pieces, and local history. It is not an editorial page or a platform for division. My goal is to leave readers feeling informed, connected, and encouraged. There’s already enough negativity in the world; this space should be one that lifts people up and reminds us of the good around us.
Speaking of community, the Westend Food Pantry’s Prime Rib Dinner fundraiser will be held at Rosburg Hall this Saturday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. The fundraiser has already been sold out, so no tickets are available now nor will be at the door the day of the event. This event is a great way to support a vital local service while sharing a good meal with neighbors.
