News of Grays River, Rosburg, and Deep River

The Better School club theatre presents “Niki-Wild Dog of the North” and two “Three Stooges” cartoon features tomorrow night (Friday) at the Grays River Valley school. The fun begins at 7 p.m.

The Better School club is sponsoring a National Assembly program featuring a well known magician at the school gym on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Everyone in the community is welcome. No charge.

The Rabies clinic will be held March 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. Along with rabies vaccine, a combined hepatitis and distemper vaccine will be available for those who wish to take advantage of it. This is a series of two shots, paid for now, and the second shot will be given at Dr. Vetter’s office in Raymond in two weeks for animals over eight weeks old. The cost is $12.50. For animals under eight weeks, distemper vaccine only is given, for $7.50. Call Clair Stephan if you need more details.

The Rosburg Community club will hold its March meeting tonight (Thursday) at the Rosburg hall. Meeting time is 7:30 p.m.

The Genealogy class for interested persons in Western Wahkiakum and Pacific Counties will resume classes tonight, March 18 in the cafeteria at the GRV school. Class time is 7 p.m. Mrs. Bert Richardson from Cathlamet is the instructor.

The Senior Citizens’ Organization of Wahkiakum County will hold a potluck luncheon on March 26 at the Grays River Grange hall at 12 noon. Lunch is free, and there will be a program. Bringing food is not an absolute requirement if someone is unable to do so. The luncheon is especially for Senior Citizens but is open to all, young and old. If younger people come, they are urged to bring a senior citizen with them.

The Grange baking contest was held last week and local ladies did very well: Mary Kandoll received the purple ribbon in yeast breads; Ila Mae Larson received a red ribbon in breads; Elsie Torppa received blue and Myrtle Anderson a red ribbon in sweet breads; Myrtle Anderson received a blue ribbon in cakes; and Myrtle Magnuson received a red in cookies.

The Wahkiakum Organization of Women’s club will hold a council meeting on Tuesday at the DNR building. Time is 10 to 1 p.m.

Kindergarten mothers, don’t forget the meeting at Grays River Inn this morning, Thursday 10 a.m.

Dewitt Barr is confined to Ward 14 at the Veteran’s hospital in Vancouver as of last week. I’m sure he would appreciate mail from friends.

Jerome Otterson is also at the Veteran’s hospital.

Word has been received of the death of Frank Gunkel in Port Angeles in recent years. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bond of Longview, who are related, attended his funeral on Monday.

Mrs. Edna Kimball’s funeral was held in Tacoma last Wednesday and she was brought here to be buried in the Grays River cemetery. She is survived by husband Melville, two daughters, and a son. Melville Kimball was an overnight guest of Norman Durrah Wednesday, and visited with the Ed Sorensons and Homer Durrahs on Tuesday.
