GOOD BEGINNING--As this week begins, as well as another new month, we woke up to some chilly temperatures but at least it was dry. February had closed with off and on downpours along with a bit of hail, so having a decent Sunday was good for the soul. Unfortunately, the week looks to be a bit damp with only a couple of dry days: one of which is on Wednesday (yesterday) and then maybe Sunday and Monday. However, a couple of those days are projecting the temperatures to drop into the freezing range so it's possible that we could see a few snow...
MIXED UP BEGINNING--As this week began, Sunday was sure a wild mix of weather, with some sun, some rain, some hail and even some very gusty winds in certain areas. I think much of West Valley escaped the worst of the winds, as I got very little of that here at my house, while folks elsewhere seemed to get the brunt of it and even had their gazebos torn apart! Further east, there were even some power outages, so it definitely depended on where you were as to how bad the weather was that day. I think this is the second time this year that we've...
HALF AND HALF--As this week began, we had sort of a gray but dry start, but by mid-afternoon Sunday, the rain started to fall pretty heavily and along with some wind, made for quite the racket on the windows around my place. Thankfully this dark soaker didn't last too long and we got back to some sunshine, but we're definitely doing the "half and half" routine around here. Drier but colder weather followed that but we're supposed to be back to the boots and umbrellas type weather by the weekend, so here's hoping that we don't get anymore...
SOGGY--As of this writing, we are measuring just a snitch shy of 50" of rainfall since the beginning of the year; that's wet! However, when the weekend showed up, it got drier, albeit colder, but hey, we got to see the sun shining after the fog lifted and well, that was so welcomed after days of gloom and steady rainfall! The clear weather also meant we got to see some fantastic views of the "Snow Moon" so that was pretty special as well. In some areas around here, there were even some pretty hefty winds blowing one night, so some calm days...
MILD TO FRIGID--As this week began, which was Super Bowl Sunday, the morning sunshine was a real treat, even if it was quite nippy out. Some places got down to freezing while others were just close. Considering we were told we might have snow or rain in the morning, it was definitely a nice treat to see the sun for a bit! However, on Monday morning, many folks in the higher regions, like Beaver Creek, woke up to some "white stuff" and slick conditions so school wound up being postponed for a couple of hours. I was pretty surprised that we...
WILD WEEK!--The latter half of last week was really a rough one as not only did we get hit with some major flooding in our county, but we had a large landslide on KM once again, which, as you know by now, has shut down SR 4. The slide is approx. at MP 25, but the closure of the highway is between Mile posts 19 (Shannon Road on the Grays River side) through 26 (Mullen Road on the Skamokawa side), which are at the foot of KM on each side. With the volume of mud and debris and the unstable conditions, it's a real mess and as of this writing, our...
NICER?--After a couple of days of snowy weather and then a couple of outages last week due to strong winds and debris flying everywhere, it's back to just rain and gloomy conditions, so I guess that's some sort of improvement anyway. Of course, by the time you read this, who knows what has happened, but with a little luck, we will just stay damp and dismal and not flooded and totally miserable, as one is certainly more preferred than the other. Here's to calmness this coming week! HOW DID YOU FARE?--Depending on where you were, you may have had...
NOT NICE--Last week ended with a whole lot of wind and rain and "King Tides" and sadly, the deaths of a couple of young children. Every year, people are warned about being on the beach and how "sneaker" waves can take you down in an instant. During King Tides, it is even more important to stay very clear of flat beaches and low lying areas, where waves will rush up with such speed and power, that there is no escaping them. Needless to say, we feel absolutely heart broken for those who lost their loved ones. Via multiple videos, there were also...
COLDER WEATHER COMING?--We've had some wind and rain but temperatures have been relatively mild for this time of year, with temps in the 50s, but the dampness and high humidity has still made me feel cold to the bone. However, forecasters are saying a huge cold front is supposed to descend upon us from the north and we could get chilly enough to see some snow. If you have travel plans over the mountains, you'll want to check out those pass conditions and keep aware of the changing weather patterns, as you don't want to be caught unprepared....
ANOTHER YEAR BEGINS--Here we are saying it's a "new year" and we keep wondering where the last one went! But here we are in 2020, which means you'll probably be scribbling off 2019 from a few checks before you get used to this new date. NIPPY--As last week's Eagle came out, we were shivering a lot in West Valley, as we dipped down to 27 degrees and things were mighty icy on parts of the roadways and naturally, those shady spots with standing water, were nothing but ice. For you newer folks, watch your temperature gauges carefully, and please re...
DROUGHT OVER?--Considering the monsoon weather we had at the end of last week, I'm thinking our drought situation should be about over! It not only dumped, and filled creeks and streams and fields to the brim, but it also blew pretty good, so the roadways were full of debris. Mountain ski resorts were happy though as they got lots of snow, and the only folks really unhappy about that were the ones traveling that got caught in the transition from "nothing" to "just wet" and then, "holy cow, snow!", so if they weren't prepared, they were in for a...
DAMP--It's not that uncommon to have some miserable weather right before the holidays, but every once in awhile, it's not nearly as bad as it could be or has been, so when dealing with some rain and foggy conditions lately, I'm just glad it's not snow or ice, so I'll count my blessings. Let's hope any moisture we get isn't too heavy as we are already pretty soggy and I've seen some mini slides and falling rocks along the roadways and we're hoping "mini" ones don't turn into "maxi" ones! SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Dec. 19-25...
FOGGY--As we begin this work week, we've got plenty of foggy mornings in West Valley, but not a lot of heavy rains like our neighbors to the south of us, so I guess I'll take the damp foggy mornings and drier days, rather than the downpours they've had. It makes you feel chilled to the bone though, so it's definitely time to drag out the heavier sweaters and throw that extra blanket back on the bed! We may see some rain move in by the time you read this, but hopefully it doesn't cause us any serious problems. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating...
COLD BUT WARMING--The last few days of November were pretty chilly in West Valley, as temperatues were down to just 19 degrees and the frost was very thick on everything a couple of mornings. With that kind of cold weather came some restless nights with little sleep, as many of us have to deal with keeping our water flowing so as not to freeze up! So when it warmed up Saturday night, we weren't complaining a bit. We did see just a skiff of snow here on Sunday morning and a couple of inches on top of Beaver Creek, but at least it wasn't dumping...
SNOW MAYBE?--We had some wild weather last Monday with thunder and lightning and buckets of rain, but then it thankfully dried out. That part was nice but those freezing temperatures and heavy fog made for some chilly mornings and some hazardous driving conditions as well. Speaking of which, there is a chance that by the time you read this on Wednesday, that we may get some snow flurries. What? Please, no! I have dealt with some miserable weather conditions just prior to and even on, Thanksgiving Day, which made this holiday a total nightmare,...
DAMP--We started this past weekend with some heavy fog and some drizzly conditions, and I don't know about you, but all that dampness seemed to chill me to the bone, even though it wasn't super cold. Looking at extended forecasts, it's possible that we may get some dry times coming our way, and that certainly would be nice. We'll keep our fingers crossed as often these extended forecasts change at the last minute. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Nov. 21-27 are Danny Silverman, Kinsley Helms, Mike Brown, Gordie Oman, Kyle Parker J...
BACK TO DRIPPY--This past weekend saw some damp times and some dry times, but it was mostly damp on Saturday. Thankfully it was much drier on Sunday but there were still plenty of clouds about and some areas did get a few more showers and some had more fog, so it really depended on where you were. Looks like the upcoming weekend may be on the damp side, but I'll take that over ice and snow any day! SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from November 14-20 are Rory Heywood, Tanner Collupy, Zachary Stewart, Layton Elliott, Roberta Trotter,...
NOT TOO SHABBY--We have had some stunning sunsets around our area and I sure appreciate those who take pictures and post them on Facebook for all to see; they're gorgeous! We were down to 24 degrees out here a couple of days, but the sunshine that followed was awesome and by Saturday, it was even a bit warmer. Sunday had us "lost in a fog" in the morning, with the gray, damp morning being above freezing, but certainly not as pretty. Looks like more dry weather is expected for most of this week, with the raindrops possible towards the latter par...
NIPPY--As this week began, we had some very chilly temperatures and depending on where you were, you were either in the mid-20s or low 30s, and most of us had a whole lot of frost if you were in those "freezing zones"; brr! Certainly feels like winter is here, rather than fall. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Oct. 31-Nov. 6 are Elaine Britt, April Murdock, Miley Montgomery, Aubrea Helms, Brad McNally, Ginger Moonen, Britt Boldt, Pete Cooper, Mitchel Vik, Marsha Souvenir, Ryan Vincent, Anna Kuhn, Gary Quigley, Jessie Hoven,...
WET AND SOGGY--As we came to the end of the third week in October, we definitely got some wet weather, which not only started forming "lakes" where they didn't belong, but also caused a slide along SR 4, which are pretty much the "norm" for us during these rainy times, so I do hope you are mindful of that. If you've traveled that road for years and never had to take a short cut, or never missed an appointment or never had any issues at all, well, you are definitely blessed with good luck, as most of us have experienced one problem or another...
MID-MONTH--We had some chilly weather at the end of last week but had some sunshine, so that was nice. Saturday was decent until some rain in the evening hours, but that didn't last long, so Sunday may have been cloudy but it was decent. We may be in for a very wet few days this week, along with some gusty winds, so if that happens, I hope you are prepared for the worst, and we'll hope for the best. Here's hoping you were able to get all your outdoor chores done on a couple of those nice, dry days that we had. THINKING OF THEM--There have been...
WEATHER--The end of last week saw heavy downpours between the dry times in West Valley, so that was good. Saturday started foggy and I thought it might be dry all day, but it did pour a couple of times, but again, at least it wasn't a daylong drenching. Monday saw quite a bit more moisture here in West Valley than in other places, as while it was dripping wet here, it was sunny and dry in Longview, so our yards got some extra watering that others didn't seem to get! Drier conditions may show up, but that comes with colder temperatures. SPECIAL...
COOL START--In West Valley, it was a very foggy and very chilly 32 degrees at the beginning of this week, which was also the last day of September, so it feels like our Winter showed up a little bit early to me! SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Oct. 3-9 are Deb Gribskov, Matt Helms, Ronald Britt, Cindy Turner, Collin Montgomery, Kylee Montgomery, Mary B. Cothren, Tony Silva, Richard Robinson, Patti Bergseng, Allen La Berge, Kevin Vik, Lauren Brockway, Jessie Havens, Erica Biem, Breanna Lorenzo, Kari Good Martin, Sandra Gison, Lisa...
ENDING/BEGINNING--Here we are towards the end of yet another month, and yes, it flew by! As I write this, Fall has officially arrived and it's a cloudy, gloomy day, but at least it isn't pouring down rain like it was yesterday, so I'll take the dry and gloomy over the super wet and gloomy any day! With these cooler temperatures, it's definitely time to drag out those warmer coats and maybe add another blanket to our beds, as the night air has a definite chill to it now. The forecast shows a few dry days ahead, so let's hope that comes true and...
WILD WEATHER--As the weekend ended and the new work week began, we had some torrential downpours that carved a path down a lot of driveways, followed by some gloomy weather, which looked to bring more rain but then the sun came out, so it was a mix of sorts. With more stormy weather in the forecast, along with a couple of dry days, I hope we can get a little dry stretch in there so we can wrap up those summer chores that we've been putting off until now! Not to mention, we've got quite a few things going on this weekend, which are much more...
