    Rex Ziak is the presenter of the movie, “Natural Timber Country”. He made a name for himself as a Lewis and Clark historian. He also heads the Oban Society, whose mission is “To foster peace, friendship, and reconciliation among families and nations.     On March 23, 7:30 p.m. Grays River Grange will host an old time movie night. “Natural Timber Country” is a 1972 film telling the story of the logging industry. We're setting up an old film projector in our hall to watch the reel of this historical documentary. Local historian Rex Ziak will lead a discussion after the screening. Popcorn and refreshments will be served.     Wahkiakum County residents will be able hear political candidates discuss issues at two candidate forums next week. The Eagle is sponsoring a forum Monday, 7 p.m., at the Pioneer Community Center (Pioneer Church). The Grays River Grange is sponsoring a forum on Tuesday, 7 p.m., at the Grange hall in Grays River.     The election for the Grays River Habitat Enhancement District is proceeding for April 27. There are three seats on the district’s board with a contested election for every position. Last week I wrote how the election used a weighted ballot system. Another unique feature is that entities which are landowners / taxpayers in the district can vote.     The election for the Grays River Habitat Enhancement District board will be on April 27. There has not been an election for quite some time and I’m finding that many are unaware of the way the district conducts the voting. It appears the rules for the election are set up with landowners and taxpayers in mind. For example, school funding levies used to have a sixty percent threshold to pass – the intention was to provide a balance for citizens who pay the property taxes.
