  • Food pantry starting holiday food drives

    Trudy Fredrickson|Nov 3, 2016

October has been a wet one, and hopefully it's not a predictor of what the rest of the winter will bring as far as precipitation. My rain gauge here in Grays River reads over 18 inches for the month. Fortunately we were only flooded in one time. It's a really good idea to get prepared for the worst. Make sure you are equipped with supplies for yourself and your family, your pets and even keep an eye on your neighbors--just in case. Fuel for your generators and vehicles is also a must--just in case. Carry an emergency bag in your vehicle with...

  • Medicate enrollment health program at JP

    Trudy Fredrickson|Oct 20, 2016

Do we live in the “wild and wilder” northwest or what? This past weekend was certainly an eye opener as to Mother Nature’s power and ferocity. I thought I was prepared for just about everything, but it seems that wasn’t the case as far as my beautiful old walnut tree was concerned. I have no idea how old it was, but as I stood in my living room watching the wind and rain, that monstrous tall tree just decided to lay over into the yard below our house. It was surreal, as if in slow motion. It is like losing an old friend. As I finish up this ar...

  • Saturday lasagna feed will benefit food bank

    Trudy Fredrickson|Sep 22, 2016

It is so good to be home to my little piece of heaven, from the central valley of California’s 100 degree heat, traffic, people everywhere, police sirens and insane freeway driving to get anywhere. That said, it was probably the most wonderful and healing trip that I could have ever made. I spent 11 days with kids, grandkids and other family members that I hadn’t seen in years, as well as more of our “adopted kids” and their families. But going there will be only to visit. This is home. News from Naselle: Sports calendar for the Naselle...

  • Cooking classes offered at GRVC

    Trudy Fredrickson|Sep 15, 2016

I’m writing this week’s column at the kitchen table of my son and daughter-in-law in “sunny California.” Believe me, if I didn’t have family and friends here, I wouldn’t be either. So many people on top of each other, so much traffic and construction everywhere. That said, I am having a wonderful visit with everyone. It has been a very long time since I visited the place we raised our children. I am making a point of seeing how things have changed and those things that have remained the same since we left nearly 17 years ago. Kind of bittersw...

  • Westend preschool programs to begin

    Trudy Fredrickson|Sep 8, 2016

Hooray for the rain. We really need it as everything has turned brown. Hopefully it will also help with some of the fire danger as well. It looks like some of the farmers are also feeding hay to their cattle, as the grazing is pretty much non- existent. • Schools in full swing; Comets at WHS Friday

    Trudy Fredrickson|Sep 1, 2016

It’s hard to believe this year is nearly gone. What happened to summer? The leaves are already turning color. I hate to admit it but I’m really looking forward to fall, with cooler temperatures and a fire in the wood burning stove. Maybe I’m weird, but I do love the weather here, even the rain. News from Naselle: School is in full swing, homework, sports practice and competition has begun. New teachers, new students and a full schedule of events for the 2016-17 year. • Volunteers sought for Johnson Park board

    Trudy Fredrickson|Aug 11, 2016

Not that I dislike this cool drippy weather, but I think Mother Nature decided to cancel summer for this year. At least it was nice last Saturday afternoon for Poul and Zenaida Toftemark’s Pig Roast and Potluck. It looked like everyone had a wonderful time, as usual. News from Naselle: The School Board for the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District will meet on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., for their regular monthly meeting. • NHS registration starts next week

    Trudy Fredrickson|Aug 4, 2016

This has been a tough summer on the haymakers in our neck of the woods, never knowing when or if the rain is coming. As I work on this article, we have rain in the forecast, so the farmers are scurrying to get their baled hay under cover before it gets here. News from Naselle: Registration for high school classes will begin next week in Naselle. On Wednesday, the 10th at 6 p.m. for 12th grade students and at 7 p.m. for 11th grade students.
