Herman (Herb) J. Gessner, 86, died January 19, 2016, at his home on Puget Island. Herb was born April 2, 1929 in Detroit, Mich., the son of Herman J. Gessner Sr., and Marie Christine Gifford. He worked his way to engineer in the aerospace industry, retiring in 1985. He was married to Margaret Alice Stickle for 50 years. She preceded him in death in 1999. The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Crab & Oyster Feed at the Norse Hall on February 20. This will be the 31st year for this event. The Crab & Oyster Feed is a fundraising event for the Chamber. Funds raised at this dinner help to support Bald Eagle Days and the fireworks show that coincides in mid-July. John Jackson “Jack” Burdick was born to Donald and Claire (Jackson) Burdick in Longview on April 17, 1946. He died on January 4, 2016 at his home in Cathlamet. He grew up in Cathlamet, graduating from Wahkiakum High School in 1964. He began work immediately for Crown Zellerbach doing various logging jobs until he entered the Army. He was stationed in Viet Nam and when he came home from the military resumed logging. He was well known in the small community as a timber faller which he did until Crown Z closed the Cathlamet operation in 1989. In...
