    The Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet partnered with three fire agencies this year to fight children’s cancer. The Cathlamet Fire and EMS Department, Skamokawa Fire District, and the Wahkiakum County Fire Protection District #4 raised $4,396.28 for the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Research Program (KDCCP) at the OHSU Medical Center Campus in Portland.     In 1967, Columbian white-tailed deer (CWTD) were listed as an endangered species. Their range had shrunk from about 13 million acres to around 350,000 acres. Approximately 20,000 acres of which were in the Cathlamet/Westport area. Once ranging over a large part of western Washington and Oregon, the population was reduced to two Distinct Population Segments (DPS).     The Cathlamet Public Library will reopen on Saturday, February 22. The Open House Celebration, from 2-4 p.m., will rededicate the newly remodeled library. The library was moved to a temporary location last summer so that work could begin at the City Hall location. The first meeting of the “For Your Health” support group will be held Thursday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the River Street Meeting Room, 25 River Street, Cathlamet.     The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has installed floating pens at Cathlamet to raise juvenile salmon for future fisheries. The net pens were moved from Deep River to the town dock about three and a half weeks ago, according to Kodi Buchanan, who works at the Beaver Creek Fish Hatchery.
