ANOTHER ENDING--This weekend marked the end of the fourth annual Smoky Water Follies put on by the Skamokawa Grange. If you missed the show, you missed some great talen...

To The Eagle: In last week's edition of The Eagle, specifically in the Skamokawa News column, the author Kay Chamberlain promoted the Smoky Water Follies. She listed many cast members and included in many cases the musical and dramatic numbers they were to perform. Kay omitted one very important name. Without this name, the Follies would not have been as successful as it turned out to be. This individual's attention to every detail along with her acting and musical abilities were the reason for the show's success. The name that was left out of...

WET AND MUGGY--As this week began, we were back to raindrops off and on but some sun breaks made things steamy at times and it was pretty muggy on Monday really. Of course, anybody who has been fighting to get their lawn mowed between showers, knows that this is just the kind of weather that makes the ole grass grow before your eyes. They say we're going to get some summer like weather, and with summer officially starting next Tuesday, I'm sure we're all hoping that's true! High water in the Columbia River kept the Columbia River Yacht Club home on Memorial Day, costing the Elochoman Slough Marina anticipated revenue, port manager Jackie Lea told Port District No. 1 commissioners at the regular meeting Thursday. The river is at flood stage and full of debris. Yacht club members feared they’d be traveling with what they called “submarine-sized debris” and that it would take a long time to get home, Lea said. While she said she’s always concerned that revenues are less than anticipated, the rest of the busines...

Sometime after 5 a.m., a noise like someone throwing rocks on the metal roof of their three-level house awoke him and his wife, Virginia.
