    Diana Zimmerman|Jun 1, 2017

With a GPA of 3.92, Kyryn Jacot is the salutatorian for Naselle/Grays River Valley School District's Class of 2017. Jacot was accepted to Central Washington University, where she plans to study biology. "Ever since I was a little kid I've loved working with animals," Jacot said. "That is my end goal to have a job that is working with animals." She considered being a veterinarian, but that would require her to be in school. Despite the obvious work it has taken to be salutatorian, she would...

A MIX--We had some pretty warm days last weekend, but by the time you read this, it's supposed to have cooled down and maybe even rained, so we have really had some "yo-yo" weather around here lately! Umbrellas for shade one day and wearing flip-flops and the next thing you know, we're still using umbrellas but we've got boots on to wade through all the puddles! Let's just hope the weekend will be decent as there's a lot going on and we'd all rather see dry than wet! SPECIAL DAYS--The following people will celebrate their birthdays from June...

  • Blood drive is coming up fast

    Trudy Fredrickson|Jun 1, 2017

After I posted my column last week from California telling everyone how hot it was, the weather took a turn to cooler. The rest of my trip was in the high seventies and low eighties. Nobody wanted me to leave, because apparently I brought the nice temps with me. It turns out the weather was warmer here than down there. Go figure. I just know it is so good to be home in the trees, green grass and quiet. No traffic noise, sirens and weird folks walking up and down the sidewalks. Three of my granddaughters will be flying in on the 7th for a...

    Diana Zimmerman|Jun 1, 2017

Dana Hamp is no friend to dirt. "Dirt fears me," she laughed. "I've always been into cleaning, even when I was a child. I call it cleaning therapy." Hamp's family moved to the Naselle area the same year Mt. St. Helens blew. Her brothers graduated from Naselle High School, but when her parents divorced, she moved to Seattle with her mom. After finishing high school, she tried beauty college. It didn't take. So back to school she went. To support herself while she furthered her education, she...

  • Wetland information is available online

    May 18, 2017

To The Eagle: The May 11 article regarding the Shoreline Master Program (SMP) significantly understates the areas of the county that are impacted. By state law, shorelands are not limited to just 200 feet from the ordinary high water mark of certain designated waterways as the article suggests, but also include any associated wetlands and their buffers. If any portion of a wetland falls within the 200 foot shoreland boundary, then the entire wetland is under the jurisdiction of the SMP regardless of how far from the stream that is. For my...

9-355-0472 Cell 360-465-2310 Grays River Valley Center has had a very busy couple of months. In April, Commisioneer Mike Backman asked us for one month to keep as best we could a tally, of people using the facility. So we put up sign up sheets in every room, that is used by the public. It was truly exciting at the end of the month, when I started adding up the sign in sheets, for Grays River Valley Community Center. The Gym, Exercise Room, and Activity Room had sign in sheets, but we were not able to monitor as closely as the other rooms....

  • Remember Mom on this Sunday

    Kay Chamberlain|May 11, 2017

WILD TO MILD--I hope the crazy weather we had last Thursday will not be repeated soon, as that was certainly something we haven't gone through in some time. We had sunshine, then the clouds came in with the wind, the sky turned black and then "ka-boom." The thunder started to roll, the lightning started to flash and the rains began to pour, which was accompanied by some hail in some places; just wild! • Busy weekends ahead with variety of events

    Trudy Fredrickson|May 11, 2017

This past week has been a great catch up time for my sisters and me. Just hanging out with no particular rhyme or reason for doing things, except being together. We had a wonderful time at the Little Mermaid play in Naselle last Saturday evening. On Monday, since it was such a lovely day, we headed to Woodland to visit the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens. What a lovely place to visit, beautiful gardens with a variety of flowers and trees, but a concentrated effort on lilacs. The old home of Hulda Klager is maintained beautifully with knowledgeable...
