If you haven’t driven through Grays River to Rosburg lately, you are really missing a beautiful sight. The Naselle Middle School knowledge bowl teams competed in their final meet on February 26 at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen. The Naselle 8th grade team consisted of Abby Moten, Zanith Wulf, Haley Depoe, Jaclyn Steenerson, Hannah Wirkkala, Cody Condon, and Ethan Lindstrom. The 8th grade team competed against 14 other teams from Elma, Montesano, Ocosta, North Beach, Hoquiam, Ilwaco and Wishkah. Darlene M. Haataja, 88, a life long resident of the Altoona-Rosburg area, died at her home in Rosburg on February 23, 2016. Both her father and mother were of Finnish ancestry, and she was born at home in Altoona on June 17, 1927, the daughter of Helge and Jenny (Buskala) Saari. She grew up on the family farm, attended Altoona grade school and graduated from Naselle high school. Following high school she worked at the Altoona fish cannery. Wahkiakum 4-H members from Carol Ervest's Sugar n Spice club modeled their outfits at the Sewing and Stitchery Expo Saturday, February 27 in Puyallup. Shelby McEneny, Lindsay Hunt and Grace Hunt, all of Grays River, were part of the 4-H dress revue contest at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup last September. Robert Fauver, of Deep River, died February 15, 2016. He was born April 20, 1927 in Spring Valley, Minn., to David C. and Blanche (Stuhr) Fauver. His family moved from Minnesota to Deep River in 1937. He graduated from Naselle High School in 1946 and joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Korea during World War II. He returned to Deep River and married Marcia Harrison in 1950. They had four children and later divorced. Bob worked as a timber faller for several logging companies, retiring...

WET START--As our big Valentine's Day arrived, so did the rain and boy, it didn't take long and all the fields around were "lakes" once again! Robert M. Fauver, of Deep River, died at Longview Hospice Care Center on February 15, 2016 at the age of 88. MIXTURE--At the end of last week, we saw wind, rain, heavier rain and hail, mixed up with dashes of sunshine and rainbows.
