    Diana Zimmerman|Jul 6, 2023

If you are looking for an opportunity to stretch and grow in a supportive environment, you might consider Let it Be Yoga with Linda Krohn, who is offering a class every Wednesday morning from 10-11 a.m. at the River Rat on Broadway. Krohn has been practicing yoga for 15 years and teaching for the last four. She got her start in the practice when a girlfriend talked her into joining a hot yoga class in Puyallup. "I thought I was going to die," Krohn remembered, laughing. She didn't, obviously....

As the story goes, a member of the Wahkiakum School District's robotics team asked the Congresswoman for Washington's Third District if the team could push her in the pool if they won the qualifier for this year's International SeaPerch underwater robotics competition. The year before, they celebrated a win at the inaugural qualifier with a dunking of their coach, Ron Wright. She was heard to say yes, and in...

  • Caring for the whole child at SJFC

    Diana Zimmerman|Jun 29, 2023

It was a quiet day when I visited St. James Family Center the week after school got out for the summer, but teachers assured me that would change in the coming weeks. The youngest kids were contentedly playing with each other or by themselves in their classroom, while the school age kids, full of energy, charged around the gym for awhile before heading upstairs to their own classroom for other activities. St. James provides childcare for kids aged two and a half to five, and five to 12. Youth...

With a liquor license, cider, beer, and wine on tap, Rowley plans to open the venue once a month for a live music event. Diana Zimmerman|Jun 22, 2023

When Michael Kirby transferred from a grocery store in Toledo to manage Cathlamet Market Fresh a couple years ago, he was told it would only be for six months. With the transfer came a promise that his half a year would be rewarded with management of an even bigger store. "We had to twist his arm," David Kirby, his father said. Little could he or his father know that it would become a much more permanent post. On April 11 of this year, not long after his father retired from the business,...

The city has not changed utility connection fees since 2013. The council discussed various methods of discount including the number of homes built or lower connection fees for less expensive housing but no decision was made. • Zimmerman issues new challenge for 2023 WCF

    Diana Zimmerman|Jun 22, 2023

Last year I issued a challenge for the Wahkiakum County Fair. I was pretty sure that I, an infrequent baker, could make the best pie in the county, and I happily told you so. I confess it was mostly bluster, but it was a bit of fun. Twenty-three other bakers in the county stepped up to prove me wrong, and boy did they ever. Four of them took top honors. I got a blue ribbon, but I think it was the fair’s way of saying, “Bless your heart.” The GFWC Cathlamet Woman’s Club has taken over the pie...
