Runners from the Wahkiakum Mule and Naselle Comet cross country teams will compete in this Saturday's state championship race. The top four teams and 20 individuals in the boys race and the top two teams and 10 individuals in the girls race advance to the championships on Saturday at Pasco. The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to the Adna Pirates Tuesday night in a battle for second place in league standings. The Mules rolled through the first game to win 25-18, but the Pirates warmed up and were able to handle the Mule attack after that, winning the next three games 25-19, 25-22, and 25-23. The Wahkiakum Mule team is trying to fill some big shoes. Graduation last June took the leading hitters and an all-league setter. Retirement took a coach with college experience and success at Wahkiakum, Patty Anderson. Long-time assistant Coach Jeff Rooklidge has stepped into the head coach role.
