    The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team advanced to the second round of the district volleyball tournament by defeating Morton 24-26, 26-24, 25-10, 25-16 Tuesday at Montesano. They'll play South Bend 11 a.m. Saturday morning at Montesano. The competition will be double elimination, and four teams advance to state.     Runners from the Wahkiakum Mule and Naselle Comet cross country teams will compete in this Saturday's state championship race. The top four teams and 20 individuals in the boys race and the top two teams and 10 individuals in the girls race advance to the championships on Saturday at Pasco. Northwest Christian won the boys team title with 55 points. Mossyrock was second with 60, followed by North Beach 92 and White Pass 95. Naselle tallied 198 points, and Wahkiakum ran incomplete.     The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to the Adna Pirates Tuesday night in a battle for second place in league standings. The Mules rolled through the first game to win 25-18, but the Pirates warmed up and were able to handle the Mule attack after that, winning the next three games 25-19, 25-22, and 25-23.     The short-handed Wahkiakum Mules ground out a 21-13 non-league victory over the combined Morton/White Pass (M/WP) football team in the 2009 homecoming game last Friday. "It was not our best game," said Mule Coach Eric Hansen. "We were missing seven starters, some to injury, some to illness, one to grades, and one for a tobacco suspension."
