    The Wahkiakum Lady Mules basketball team used speed and quickness to defeat the Mossyrock Vikings 58-43 Tuesday evening in Cathlamet. The Mules took control of the boards, stole Viking passes and put together fast breaks for a 21-9 first quarter lead.     On Tuesday, the battle for first place in the Pacific League boys basketball standings took place in a crowded gym in Naselle, with the Comets beating South Bend 69-55. The Comets spurted out with a quick basket and never looked back. After the first quarter, the Comets led 19-8. South Bend closed the gap to two points, Naselle 27, South Bend 25 at the half.     Last weekend the Wahkiakum Mule wrestling team competed in Kalama’s annual Rubber Chicken Tournament, placing ninth overall, the highest placing Class B school.     The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team fell behind the Pe Ell Trojans early last Friday and lost a 69-52 Central League basketball game. On Wednesday the Mules traveled to Ocosta High School in Westport for a district seeding competition, and then traveled to Clatskanie to take place in their first annual Clatskanie Invitational.
