NICE WEEKEND--You'll probably be reading this after some rainy days, but boy, last weekend sure was nice! The cold mornings weren't so great but those sunny afternoons made for the perfect time to till gardens and mow lawns and get out and do some yard work, so that was great. While Monday saw some rain, it also came with a few sun breaks, so that cheered folks up, and considering we may have a week of drippy weather, we'll take all the sun breaks we can get! NOT GOOD--Unfortunately, with all that sunny, warm weather, a whole lot of folks...

Silly Things People Say This article is dedicated to the faithful readers of The Wahkiakum County Eagle who have a sense of humor; as for the rest I have no idea what to tell you. I am writing slowly because I understand some of you can’t read fast. All the isolation because of the virus has many people talking to themselves. I talk to myself all the time and some might find that a bit irritating; however, when I do talk to myself my conversations are really quite lively. The real but modest irritation for me is when I call myself and the p...

WILD WEATHER--Last Thursday was a super gorgeous day and everyone was enjoying the sun and basically scoffing at the idea of the "snowflake" on their weather apps on their phones, until Friday morning, and then there it was: snow! It seems like Friday the Thirteenth was more like April Fools' Day and we went from flip flops to boots in a matter of hours! We had a few more flakes the next day, but most of the heavier amounts of snow were east of us, so that suited me just fine, but I was pretty amazed to see the white blankets of snow in some...
The Washington State Department of Health, alongside partners at Bloodworks Northwest, is encouraging eligible donors to continue to give blood. Growing concerns about COVID-19 is leading to an increased number of canceled blood drives, which is impacting the amount of blood available for those in need. This is creating a significant public health risk and puts our local blood supply in danger of collapse. “Our region’s blood stores are extremely low. We should not let fear from one health issue create another,” Gov. Jay Inslee said. “I en...

Sanity check The outbreak of the corona virus has left many with some fears that are unfounded and at times silly. This virus is a serious threat to everyone, but it would be wise to get the facts straight before making assumptions and creating a panic where there should not be one. While in a grocery store recently, I commented to a man that I had heard that Corona beer sales have dropped because of the virus. I thought it was a joke and so did he. When I said it, another man behind us began laughing hysterically. He looked at us and said...

Does your site get rough use, heavy traffic, some coarse textured grass doesn’t mind some abuse. Steep slopes, rocky areas and paths are not good locations for grass, use some other p...
