Next Wednesday, February 21, from 2-4 p.m., will be our first Wahkiakum Outdoors presentation with Andrew Emlen. He will be focused on the two species of pelicans which inhabit the Lower Columbia River region. Andrew is a well-known birding expert in the local region and is a river kayaking guide. The advancement of technology has changed a lot in the last 50 years. The Wahkiakum 4-H Robotics Club brought their robots to the Senior lunch in Cathlamet on Thursday, February 8 to talk about what they are using to learn programming. On display was small Wedo robots that the younger kids work with, an underwater robot, a drone with a camera, and an EV3 robot. A short demonstration of the EV3 was given. This past weekend Wahkiakum 4H Robotics went to the Showare Center in Kent for the FIRST Tech Challenge State Championships. While our team and robot performed better than it ever has, we finished as one of the "also-rans." SB 6101 applies to state residents enrolled in a state university or community college with 45 credits and maintaining a grade point average of 2.0 or above. OLYMPIA (Feb. 6) -- A bill that would tax oil in pipelines to fund oil spill prevention planning passed out of a state Senate committee —but only after a proposed tax hike was dropped. The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is preparing for one of its biggest events of the year, the 33rd Annual Crab and Oyster Feed. Hunters must purchase and submit their spring black bear special hunt applications to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) by midnight on Feb. 28. Hunts will occur in specific areas of western and eastern Washington.
